    Whats the bi=old size and trick to getting the bottom bolt out? Every socket I have is a bit to bit or too small. I got the 1/2 in on it but it would not budge and started to round off. I know the pulls is left to tighten right to loosen. Is that bolt the same way?

    not sure what your taking off? the pulley? or the whole alt bracket and tentioner?

    GM has been metric bolts for awhile now. If 1/2 is close then you probably need a 13mm.

    13mm is what I usually use or I grab a 12 point 1/2 or 13mm socket.

    13 mm will get it off. if its rounded already its gonna be a bit of a fight i guess.

    try a 6 point 1/2 or 13 mm.

    Hold up guys.. some years are 13, some are 15.

    Which hole is fighting.


    The only bolt that is backwards thread is the pulley..and you don't need to remove that bolt
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    The elbows will be slightly corroded and you might end up breaking them to get them out. This is.. as long as the assembly feels like there are no more bolts holding it.

    in that case be careful when pulling the lower cast elbow out as per bills how to. if you mess this part up you can break the timing cover and then you need to replace it.


    this lower elbow that circled is a cast elbow. its part of the alt bracket, you need to pull on it and wiggle it ever so slightly to free it from the timing cover. first thing i do is grab the top elbow with pliers and break it, so its not a fight, once the bolts are off the only thing your fighting is getting the elbow out of its hole.

    when you buy new elbows you take the one O ring off the unused elbow, and put it on the cast elbow.

    I originally thought the problem was the water pump so I bought one but now I think it may just be the elbows to late to return the pump, question is change it anyway or leave well enough alone, because I am guessing the pump does not have to come off to do the elbows its 3 years old about 20,000 miles on it advance autos own brand new one is an ac delco wondering what you guys would do out of curiosity

    id leave the new one in the box in on a shelf till needed. dont fix whats not broken.
