I didn't read the whole thread but 1 qt in 3-5k miles is considered "normal" from what I understand. When I mentioned to the dealer I bought from (not that I ever go there anymore) that I was going to run 6k mile oil change intervals on synthetic oil, they said just make sure to check the level because it will use at least a quart in that timeframe. Also, I know I've read on here that 1 quart of oil loss in 3k miles is expected.
Unless you are seeing oil outside the vehicle, I would assume everything is fine.
