Im usually pretty good with cars but this has me stumped. I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3800 and Im having problems. It seems to surge on acceleration through first and second until about thirty miles an hour but none after that. Also I went to check the codes and a scanner wont connect. When I turn on the car I get no check engine light like I should before the car is started. Could a burnt out light cause the car to stay in open loop and give me the bad gas mileage im getting? Also, could the surging just be caused by bad plugs or because the computer might be bad? Any help on some diagnosing this would be great. Should I check the light first to see if it is burnt out? How do I go about doing that?

Okay so I replaced the fuse last night and the light would still not come on but I did get a scanner to connect. It was simple cylinder 3 and 5 misfires and a random multiple cylinder misfire. That's no biggie just a simple tune-up. Now how do I go about changing this burnt out bulb?
