Need help with my rpm in my rpm!!

I got a gp gt and when i take my car to the express it only goes to 40 mph and the rpm is only going up to 4. Now what could it be? is it something on the transmission?
Well I just went to autozone and got a new check engine code is p0742 help please would really appreciate.

Code indicates the torque converter clutch (or tcc for short) is stuck on. It happened to me, it sucks. I had to get a new trans. Hopefully trannyman will pop in here and give you some more info.

if you went to autozone and got the code checked and know what it is, why wouldnt you know what the code meant and wanted you to do?

because he went to autozone....ppl there know absolutely nothing in my experience
