so i have this friend that blew his motor in his grand prix gt with the top end swap and he doesnt know what blew but he siad when he drained the oil it had coolant in it. i think he blew a head gasket. would that ruin the heads, intake and supercharger? the reason i want to know is because he is gonna trade the whole top end of his motor and his stock rims to me for my chrom 18's. i want to know if this is a good idea. i dont want to have to buy new heads if i do this trade.

Few things could have happened in this situation...if the cylinders filled up with coolant and he tried to start it, the entire motor could be trashed, as the connecting rods could have bent.

But, most likely it's just a blown head gasket with no internal damage. The blower should be fine, as with the lower intake manifold.

Another top swap bites the dust (Don't feel bad, I blew my old top swap up too)

why do you think the heads need rebuilt?if their is coolant in the oil he either blew a head GASKET or intake GASKET. either way the heads and intake are fine. do the trade.

Or it destroyed a piston and destroyed the cylinder wall.

instead of guessing if this is a serious problem or just a gasket, get a mechanic to look at it or atleast someone who knows what they're doing this way you know for sure if its worth it

do not top swap a 97 GT without a 98+ transmission as well. if you do then youre in for a world of hurt on your transmission very quickly.

k im gonna do the trade....i just wanted to make sure that everything that i would need would be in working condition.....ill have to start looking for a different trany too then. i dont plan on putting the top end swap on till i get a beater that i can drive while the work is getting done....but i also want to get a front mount intercooler to go along with the swap and possible a bigger throttle body.

Have fun making a set up for a front mount inter cooler and a bigger TB is a waste of money.

Read read read read and read. You can get intercoolers from zzp etc. Minichopper also makes them. Read the safely modding your 3800 thread. A front mount is near impossible to do. You need the core under the blower.

the core goes in between the blower and lim. There is a heat exchanger mounted in the front of the car to cool the coolant in the core.

I have no idea where you are going with even the power out? You will need a beefier trans. Talk to dave at triple edge performance for that. You really need to do a lot more research.
