Hi, I just purchased a 2008 Grand Prix with a V6 3.8l engine that has a low 200hp. My question is how can I make it go faster, mostly just want faster acceleration, without adding a turbo or a supercharger. My budget is small so i know that i cant get too much more HP. I would be happy with 20-40 hp gain.

So how can I increase the speed of my car? (oh yeah, Im a total idiot when it comes to cars so please be patient with me)

    Thanks!

wow a 20-40hp gain with no s/c, that's going to be a challenge...

    you can start with this

    -make an intake
    -180* t-stat
    -zzp plog
    -get a tune
    -Hv3 insert

Id say with those mods you would run a mid to low 15. You could do a d/p but, i don't think you would benefit much from it... tuning it is going to be a whole other issue with your year...

Ok, I have been looking That thread and from what i have understood from this thread if I buy the following Mods they will fit in my car and get me from 20-40HP, right? Also when i would install these mods, do I have to use a different kind of gas?

    CAI: ZZ Performance

HV3 High velocity intake insert: https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_...=214&catid=113

    Rockers: http://www.wbodystore.com/grandprix/...rs---20hp-gain!-p-243.html

Last, How tough are they to install? And how long of an install? Would you suggest something that would give me gains that are easier to install?

I know im asking a lot but I really appreciate it and If Im wrong on anything I said or you suggest something else, please tell me.

    Thanks

not to be a jerk or anything.. but if your a self claimed idiot when it comes to cars... how are you going to be putting these things in? for the price of the hv3 and rockers together... your getting close to top swap territory.. there is a sticky on top swapping... both the hv3 and rockers could be a challenging install if you dont know what your doing.

I agree and thats why I have a friend who would put everything in once i buy it. But I dont really want to top swap..

So how much HP would I gain from the above items I listed in a earlier post?

    Thanks Guys

    alright good deal
from experience.. i cant vouch for the rockers.. i hear they are a great mod.. i plan on doing the with my gtp soon... but i know i really enjoyed the hv3 on my gt. There was definitly a difference in top end. i would also say get a tuned pcm. VERY easy install and you will feel like its a different car. Could be had for $100 my prefernce is from Intense Racing

Ok, I have decided to do the 180 thermostat and the CAI. Now is there a cheap exhaust system I can get that will look natural on my car?

    Thanks

    Single or Dual Exhaust?

For Sound, if you got single...get a dual exhaust bumper and have a custom made catback with mufflers of your choice and tips...that does nothing for performance, just sound. And for god's sake LEAVE the stock resonator...you can get rid of that cat but keep the res. so your car doesn't sound like a dying Honda.

For Performance, get a 2.5" Catted Downpipe and Front PLOG.

I would prefer single as that is what I have now and would probably be less work in the end. So I should get the 2.5 Catted Downpipe and Front Plog? Do you have a link to it and is it cheap? Also I dont what my exhaust be really loud either. Just want performance..

Performance wise I would get the Powerlogged Front Manifold from ZZP, and then get a 2.5" Catted or Catless Downpipe...it is up to you on the cat. Buy em new IMO...

Thanks for the advice on the exhaust.

Now my next question is about building my own CAI, now using the following link: http://www.grandprixforums.net/fwi.php, it lists parts and the sizes of the parts but since i have 08 Grand Prix do the sizes change? And Can I get all the parts I need at a Menards?

    Thnks
