    i noticed the other day that my driver side of my car was running hot when i would go to run the ac so i went to my mechanic to see if he could fix it quick because i have had a little trouble with it in the past. so i did some research and found that when it is low on freon it will only blow cold on one side and of course the mechanic had to argue with me saying that wasnt possible but thats not the best part. they called me back later that afternoon and said that they had good news and bad news. i was going to be able to get to my college orientation with ac but my ac compressor is going bad and they showed me and it was covered in the die that they run through the system. they said that it would cost me 650 dollars to have them fix it. i was wondering if i would be able to fix it. ive done most of the work that ive ever needed on my car but normally ac is a place i stay away from. so what i need is opinions and then suggestions if you guys think i can do this myself and save some money. thanks again for the help you guys are awesome

    Talk to eric at Morad Parts Company - 3800 Motors, Transaxles, & Stock Parts and tell him Parker From TDCRacing sent you. He can get you a low mileage compressor for cheap. Go get a vacume pump for 140 bucks and a a/c manifold gauge with the quick disconnect fittings for 50.00 then change the accumulator/Dryer for 28.00 and vacume it down to 27. Let it sit for 30 minutes to make sure the vacume stays in the system. This will tell you if you have any leaks. Then put 3 cans of freon in it. Done. It would also not be a bad idea to change the seals out. Especially the two on the compressor hoses. That's only like 5 bucks though.

    how hard is it to get the hoses sealed up good and then to get the old compressor out? id probbly just have the mecanic fill it because he owes me since i bought the car and then decided to through like 800 into parts insead of mods:P thanks for the quick reply

    There is three bolts that hold the old compressor on to it's mount. You will just need to replace the two seals and then tighten the one bolt that holds the frange with the two hoses atached to it to the actual compressor.


    It's really easy.

    so the seals go inside the hose. how do you clamp down the fitting? do i need a special tool? i really want to try and do this myself because i just figured out i would be saving almost 400 by doing it myself

    Don't forget the orifice tube. Whenever doing AC work and cracking the system that should (like the drier) be an automatic.

    Compressor is 3 15mm nuts to the bracket, plus a bolt on the back end bracket.

    For small things like this I found a vacuum pump at Harbor Freight ~$15 and the manfold gauge set for ~$29 (sales of course).

    To do this properly you are lookin at a compressor, pag oil, drier, orifice tube, seal kit, freon, vacuum pump, and gauges.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    i was thinking that i would just have the shop oil it so i wouldnt have to buy the stuff to do that. what is a oraface tube or how ever you spell that? ive never really messed with ac but id like to learn how so i can save some money. thanks guys though for helping me i really appreciate it

    Just buy some pag 150 oil. Pour a little in the dyrer and if your not changing the compressor then you don't need to put any there.
