PVC pipe is alright, but it doesn't compare to powder-coated aluminum.

this is how insanely easy and cheap it is to make an intake....
go to a hardware store. purchase items A and B. a foot of 4 inch thick pvc pipe costed me less then $3. item A, a rubber 90 degree (elbow) that i cut in half, costed me $10. hose clamps were included. and finally, item C, a $25 conical filter from autozone, again, hose clamp included.

this intake is far superior, performance wise, and cheaper then the one pictured

The model we typically sell for your vehicle is 3.5"; but, we have the 4" intake pipe kit in plentiful stock as well. I'd be happy to sell the 4" piping kit to whomever is interested.

Okay, I agree that your intake kit is very cheap and easy to make; but, I wouldn't say it is clearly superior. For one, I would say that it does nothing to enhance the appearance of your engine bay. The intake I sell has black powder coated aluminum with a carbon-fiber designed filter. I would imagine that your white PVC pipe will look very soiled in a few months. Also, the combination of the black elbow, white PVC and blue conical filter doesn't look very aesthetic.

Performance wise: I would say that the two kits are comparable. I have no way of comparing the performance of your kit versus mine, but as I mentioned above we have a 4" diameter polished aluminum pipe.

Yes, your intake kit is cheaper (according to your figures, roughly $38 to make your kit, versus $69.99 for my kit with free shipping), but for those who care about the appearance of their engine bays, my kit is a bargain.

Aesthetics? Any person who is legitamately modding is not concerned by aesthetics. But, just for ****s and giggles, here's mine. Maybe it's a bit more aesthetically pleasing to you :P

Both of which were made with about $60-80 each including the cost of a quality $50 filter (not a "carbon fiber" one) and a rattle can of black paint

Many people make vehicle mods for aesthetic purposes alone.

Our filter is actually a quality fabric filter with a "carbon fiber" design. From what I can see your intake systems look fairly aesthetically pleasing -- they also cost about the same price (or more) to make than the intake I offer with all parts included.

Yes, it is. Here is a picture of the intake installed on a different vehicle:

meh, you got me on appearance, since thats something i could give 2 sh*ts less about.... (you should see my cardboard heat shield)
performance, the throttle body opening is 3.75 inches. mine is bigger then stock, yours (shown) is smaller then stock. thats all im gonna say..... not gonna start a pissing match here

also, ive had that intake on for a year now, well over a few months, and that pic was taken 10 minutes before my post. i had pvc pipe on a cavalier for 3 years and it didnt discolor at all

Yes, the install photo at the beginning of this thread shows the intake with a 3.5" outer diameter; however, as I mentioned earlier, we have another intake model with a 4" outer diameter (pictured in my last post on a Dodge Dakota).

I'm not interested in a "pissing match" either, just a good-natured spirited discussion. I fully understand that you are completely satisfied with your intake setup...I'm just offering options to others who may have different preferences.

That and the fact that one was not air, and one is a FWI.... I think that it is a fair price for what it is.

    When was nitrogen mentioned here?

Nitrogen is good for two things in cars... N2 for tires and N2O for spray.
