I originally wanted 2 get the ssm90 kit for my 02 grand prix but after looking under the hood I've seen some gasket leaks.my question is should I still get the supercharger kit or should I get the gaskets changed 1st.the reason im asking is because im not 2 familiar with how expensive it is or is it something that could be done myself (not really a handyman)

You should definitely take care of any maintenance issues before you install something like a supercharger.

However, if it's the lower intake gaskets you will replace them when installing the SSM90 kit anyway.

X2^ you will be changing the heads, lim, & valve cover gaskets. The ones you wont be changing are the gaskets on the water-pump side.

You don't change the heads or valve covers with a SSM90 kit.

do a turbo and save yourself the hassle of wanting to do it later after you decide you cant go fast enough with the blower.

So are you telling me to sell all the parts I've bought, get my $2k back, then save up another thousand to get a turbo, and then shell out a lot more money sooner for a tranny upgrade?

No thanks. Me wants M90. Especially since I have brand new heads to put on. The car will run like day one.

depends what you want out of the car. i am going to be satisfied with my 12 second m90 car. if you want anything faster, just skip a step and get a turbo.

I definitely don't want to be faster than that... yet. This will be my daily driver for a while, and I don't feel like dealing with a turbo. I'll be happy with mid 13s.

well I hope with this ssm90 kit and some rocker arms,3.4 pulley and a good tune I could be in tha mid to low 13's along with the mods I already have and the 3 inch dp w/o cat im getting.and like I said im not too smart with cars but if I do the valve cover gaskets are the rocker arms right there? and If I go to the junkyard to pull a lower intake manifold is that hard to do?

I wouldn't go directly to a 3.4 on the SSM90 kit. You're going to need some exhaust work beyond a 3" DP for sure, and even then, I wouldn't think about it without running a larger pulley and scanning.

You're going to have a popped piston going to a 3.4.

On my top swap, even with a lot of porting (TB, SC, and LIM), 1.9s, Plog, intake, and DP, I'm starting on the stock size 3.8. If (and I stress the if) I can get the tune down knock free, I'll drop to a 3.4. But, I'm not expecting to be able to do that without intercooling.

We have higher compression than L67 engines. Makes us make more power on less boost, so we don't need to run such small pulleys. A 3.4 on your engine would be like a 3.0-3.2 on a L67.

less boost with more compression is what all the guys who know what they're doing do anyway.

Yep. It keeps you from having to spin the blower way out of it's efficiency range, which means you don't have as much parasitic loss from it nor as much heat in the discharge.

id bet with a stock sized pulley (3.8), a good tune, and traction and you could pull off that time.

I remember Qwikgt posted his slip, I think his car ran a 13.0 with a 1.9 60'. He had the ssm90 kit.
