bad sender, bad wire. Not sure, but if the ground goes bad I think it may stick on full. Mine shows full 99% of the time also

Yeah, its hard to tell what is causing this. But I know that my sending unit was messed up on my other 97. I replaced the entire fuel pump with a good used unit from Ed and it was fine after that.

If it is just staying on full, from my own deduction, I would say it is probably not a bad sending unit.
This was the problem on almost every 99' and up silverado's, it is rare to find one that didn't have this problem, and the gas guage would bounce around and then got back to empty, then to full, and so on and so on. I believe other models of gm have had this problem also.

Not saying it isn't a bad sending unit, but if gas guage isn't bouncing around, it is most likely another problem. The ground would be the first place I would look, then other places mentioned.

most likely if it is reading full your ground is bad.

well there might be a connector before the gas tank someone might be able to give you a better idea where exactly but when you find it. try wiggling it and see if you got a loose connection ill try to look at wiring diagrams during class tomorrow.

there is a connector that is at the front of the trunk that looks like it plugs into the trunk, not sure where it's actually pulling the ground though

I'm having the same issue, Jw if you ever looked at those diagrams. Any help I can get would be amazing.

Holy old thread, but I sure it just came up as part of what you were searching for.

But the cause for the fuel gauge to read full up and or empty and move up and down for no giving reason is most likely the fuel level senser/sender on the fuel pump. Its ca be a pretty simple fix if you are handy.

haha yeah, it was the only one that seemed most like my problem.
got it fixed tho, just re-grounded the sender unit.
easier then i thought it would be.
