My step son is the one who has the car and here's the problem. He had some sort of problem with the car and had a friend haul it home for him and when they unloaded it they let it catch on the wagon and it messed up the exhaust pipe and he had to have a section of pipe replaced at a reputable repair shop, Now he can be driving down the road and suddenly the display will show engine power loss and the car loses power of course so he has changed the battery he has removed the catalytic converter he has replaced the throttle body and gas feed position sensor the map sensor the mass air flow sensor the gasket under the EGR valve and had that tested, the only way we can get the car to run like it should so far is to unplug the new mass air flow sensor that we installed. The car will display the engine power loss and then if you continue to drive it it will idle up and down up and down. when we unhook the MAF sensor it will smooth out and seems to gain back the power. Any thoughts help or ideas would be greatly appreceiated!

check fuse 21 marked ign in the under hood box. if your getting a p0102 code, low or no voltage to the maf that fuse could be blown.

Yesterday we checked the fuses and none were blown however the emissions mini relay and the one above it showed signs of excess heat on the side of um and we switched them out thinking maybe the emissions relay could have been sticking or something will update when we have tested the car more extensivly thanks for the help

Did you replace the MAF with a genuine Delco unit? If not, then it's a good possibility its not working right. I'd grab an OEM one from a junkyard and give it a try as a true replacement one is near $150.

Check the wiring to the MAF as well, as it likes to get brittle and crack as it ages. Even if the sheathing looks good I'd still verify that the MAF is seeing the proper voltage.

Don't disconnect the MAF with it running. If you want to try, disco. the MAF before you start it then see what you get. It will run off the default tables enough to get you home, just don't go beating on it with the MAF disconnected.
