Whats up guys, with the combination of me being bored of my car and it likely needing the intake manifold and intake gaskets replaced soon, I think I will go through with top swapping. I've been looking at the Milzy Motorsports kit, does anyone have any experience with it? I have read some positive posts about them but haven't seen anyone talk about this kit. I plan to order this, with the L67 PCM and I do see that its recommended to buy a header or plog so I may do that too. I understand I could go to junkyards and get everything cheaper, but this seems easier and faster than having to search for parts.

Also, does anyone know of any places or people in MD, PA, DE, NJ, etc., that still do this type of work to 3.8 cars? I have no issue traveling. I would love to do the wrenching on my own, but because of time and the HOA, I can't.

    Thanks for any help guys.

@ItHurtz Yeah, if I don't have to spend that much I won't. Just looking for a mild bump in performance, this car is my DD that I commute in almost 100 miles per day. Don't want to do anything that will lead to breaking other parts. I think a normal L67 top swap would be fine. I have another actual fast car anyways lol...

nothing beats reliability than stock, if you have a "fast" other car, why bother making slow a tad bit less slower but still slow?

Because why not? If I can get 40whp for under $500 worth of parts I'd say that's pretty worthwhile.

Got mine for about that local myself.

The nice part about going to the junk yard and getting it all yourself is now you know how to put it back on. Biggest pain will be getting the balancer bolt off. And you'll make you have ever bolt and for the job too.

I completely understand not having the time though. You can check out car-part.com for local junk yards that have the parts you'll need already pulled, if you can find a complete motor for around 350 hop on it.

Yeah, a friend of mine was telling me about that balancer bolt lol... I'm starting to consider planning a day to go to the junkyard and pulling what I need, or simply buying an L67. I'm not really finding any place that is selling a complete top swap kit for a reasonable price. Thanks for the link too, I'm going to check that out.

Also, what kind of gauges are you all running? I know its important to monitor KR after doing something like this, I was just thinking about getting a scangauge but curious to hear what you all prefer.

    Top swaps blow.

Not worth the time for the gains.

Leave your engine totally intact and snail it.

Yeah must be some truth to this, this is the third time I've heard someone say that. For a guy looking for a mild performance boost would you still say it's not worthwhile? This car is my commuter that I drive 100 miles per day, I'll never take it to the track. Not too concerned about getting every once of power I can out of it, but an improvement from where it's at now would be great. It's soooo slow lol...

Not trying to argue or anything with you guys, you've been nothing but help. I'm just curious

Hey, is there any actual “walk thru’s” on the turbo’ing your3.8? I got a line on a high milage’d 1998 GTP that I’m thinking about scrapingfor parts & top swap into my 2000 GT. Nice to have full access to the partscar, but while the Turbo seems the way to go, it does seem pricey.

I clicked on the Regal part out and saw $1700 and immediatelyclosed the link.

Maybe in my situation, the top swap is more economically sincethe GTP is my wifey’s anyways. LOL.

Sorry, I’m new to the ball game here.

here lets play a whats worth it game

rip car down to a short block, replace everything with factory parts run factory gtp times

    OR

leave engine 100% alone, swap front manifold and crossover, run pre built oil lines, swap injectors, run some pipes that have clamps on them and tighten a few bolts and smack the hell out of most gtp's?

You dont have to run 500psi, 10psi will smack alot of cars around, 15 you will be driving with a boner.

I see the winning choice, turbo install is so easy only marshal cant do it!

Also the regal part out, guy had it down to like $1k pickup. Thats a steal x10

Turbos aren't for everybody, or every car.

Source the parts yourself. You can get a complete supercharged engine for less than milzys swap kit, or just spend some time at the junkyard pulling the parts yourself.

It really only takes a few hours to do a topswap. The biggest PITA in my opinion is the crank pulley, everything else is as simple as doing head gaskets. If you really can't do it yourself, find a local mechanic looking for some side work, and have them do it. They usually work for cheap to make some side money.

Buy my turbo to start with, and build around that. God knows I'm never touching another turbo W-body again.
