Re: Engine not starting -need help please
The fuel smell was most likely from vapor inside the UIM, happens sometimes when a car doesn't start when you crank it. The hole in the middle of the UIM inlet is the EGR inlet, it's connected to the EGR solenoid through the LIM. Stuff falling in there shouldn't hurt anything, but if pulling the UIM I would suggest draining some of the coolant out of the block just to prevent more of a mess, but it'll be fine if you don't pull it off. Make sure and let the TB dry out 110% before reassembling... It doesn't like having any form of moisture in it. Once everything is back together and running make sure to bleed all of the air out of the coolant system.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Mine was full of carbon at 85k... lol
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Swiggles, and SubwayGuy, thanks I am officially an idiot coolant makes more sense especially with the color. Don't know why I smelled fuel? As for the UIM cleaning a friend reminded me of seafoam. He took a look and said his was much worse with half the miles (not a grand prix) and seafoam cleaned it right up. Gonna go that route unless someone suggests otherwise. I am not brand loyal when it comes to these types of products. Still haven't got around to that extra can.
Travisgt2, I thought about the throttle body failing. But would it go out all at once with no indication of intermittent acceleration or some other indication of impending failure?
Keep the ideas coming please. Will update as soon as I finish cleaning.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Warstryker13, just saw page 2. Thanks for letting me know what the hole is. Definitely letting the throttle body dry thoroughly out. Oh and thanks for the tip on burping the coolant system, I would have never thought of it.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
I've also got a throttle body with 40k I can send you for $35 shipped.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Crank sensor, or maybe can sensor?

Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Swiggles thanks for the offer, but if needed my brother has a brand new one laying around from a crate 3800 SC swap into a fiero that he didn't use. Thanks anyways.
Everything is clean going to let throttle body dry overnight, overkill I know. Will install before the kids wake up, and update with results. Thanks again everyone.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
UPDATE: Still won't run long. Still says starter disabled due to electronic throttle control. Gonna borrow a code reader or buy one if I have to, before preceeding to the probable cause the crank shaft position sensor. Might take a few days but I will update as progress develops.
If I have to buy one, any cheap and basic recommendations for a obd2 reader?
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
One more update decided to check the pcv valve. In the process of getting to it while removing it I broke the MAP sensor in half, time for a new one obviously. But on the inside it is wet. Is this normal? I would think being a sensor it should be dry. Could this be the cause of my problems? And what is that fluid, and how did it get there? BTW I stopped when I saw this issue, never got to the pcv valve.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
oil vapors are in the pcv, and its gonna get to the map in a na intake.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
If the TB is clean and dry and it still wont work, try swapping in your brother's new TB before buying a sensor... It's free to do and if it works, you know what the issue is.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Car is running rough but running without the map sensor plugged in. Ordered a new one from rockauto.com. I think the map sensor was the issue. Regardless will wait for new map sensor, install, and drive to parts store to scan for codes, and will update with results. Gotta love it when a mistake actually finds and fixes the problem. Thanks again all
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
if it comes to it, check the part #'s on your tb and your brothers, cause if they dont match it wont run right.

It should be fine, GM made L32 and L26 to use the same TB design to cut costs. 06+ might be different, but IIRC the way the PCM reads the TPS was the same.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
part number makes a difference, trust me on that. they are not the same sensors, a 04 is not going to work on a 08 for an example.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
I tried using a 05 tb on my 04 wouldn't work
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Ok finally an update. Replaced map sensor and engine will again not stay running. Finally got ahold of a code reader. Codes read are p601, p606, p0030, p0036, p201 thru p206, p0443, and p606. After reading about each one it seems the pcm is bad and needs replaced. Someone please tell me if I am wrong or previous experience says it might be something else. I have already tried to get one from the junkyard but it apparently needs to be flashed or programed. Can I do this myself or do I have to have a mechanic do it? Thanks again for all the help.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
that sucks.
if you have no inspection where you live you can get a used pcm from a junk yard. but it must be from the same year and engine tranny combo as you have.
your vin# will be wrong tho and you will fail inspection.
or you could get a overkilled pcm. at least its got a tune. i forget if your na or sc, but na guys like the tune as well. 2 birds, one stone.
Re: Engine not starting -need help please
Scottydogs thanks for the reply. It is a na. I thought getting one from the junkyard would work, but the security system would not let the engine turnover. It was from the same year and the donor car had the same engine tranny combo.
