    Hi there,
I have an '05 grand prix (base) with the 3.8 Vs (natural aspiration) with 217k that won't start. Last Friday (4/9/16), while my brother was borrowing my car, the battery got drained, but not fully drained, just enough to keep the starter from engaging but still enough to kick on the fuel pump. It was fail started SEVERAL times and it got flood(naturally). After a buddy and I got her running it sounded like a damn go-kart, so we took it to his place, changed the plugs, wires, and oil and she continued to run rough (making a rapid put sound from approximately the general location of the cat). Figured it still had unburned gas pooled in the cat so I rolled the dice and figured it would sort itself out, which after a few days it started idling smoother and was getting pep back into its step. Come Thursday night when I went to leave for work, damn thing wouldn't start. Plugs and wires are all seated/gapped properly, brand new battery with a charge, fuel pump is coming on and the starter is engaging, its trying to turn over but it just won't fire. I'm at a complete loss here so any insight is greatly appreciated.

You could try unplugging the MAF sensor, then trying to pedal it to life.

Sometimes a bad MAF sensor can prevent it from starting. I'm just throwing a guess out there, and it will set the check engine light because it's unplugged.

unplugged the MAF, still not firing. Gave the starter a hammer tap, also nothing.

You said the starter already was working, so smacking it with a hammer won't change anything.

Time to check if you actually have spark now, you can just pop two wires off the same coil and see if spark jumps the gap. Then I'd check fuel pressure itself with a gauge. The pump may prime but that doesnt mean it can hold enough fuel pressure to even start the car.

Welp. It started this morning and was missing really bad and sounded like a damn Harley. Got it to my buddy's garage and gave everything the once over, including fuel pressure and fluid levels. Ran a full system check via MODIS and it came back with everything reading perfectly, save for a multiple misfire code that popped up for about 5seconds then went away(we didn't clear it, it went away on its own). We checked for spark on every plug and got nothing, we then checked for spark directly at the coils and also nothing so we narrowed it down to the ICM and I will be picking up a new one tomorrow. Thanks!

Check the coils as well, I degreased my engine the other day and had a bad miss on #1 turned out to be the tower had a crack on it.

could be a crank sensor too. it talks to the cam sensor and the icm. when bad they cause a no start for any thing from 5 minuted to 5 days lol also cause random stalling as you drive down the road. key thing is if it does stall the tack will drop to zero. dead give away the crank sensor is bad. it also wont move when cranked. if its not starting up.

I bought another grand prix and it does the same thing. It's an 04 gt. It shuts off randomly. No codes though. When I play around with the fuse box it starts right up when I switch relays around. I have to do this every time I do a cold start. Even then it shuts off randomly.
