    Hello,
    1. I have a 96 GTP that has a short possibly in the original alarm system. I put a new battery and the alarm acts up and drains it. I cannot figure out how to disconnect it. Has anyone had similar issues?
    2. It also has a coolant leak that is contained as long as you check and make sure it is filled. Is this vehicle worth shipping across country to give to my nephew for his first car? I am the original owner and it has 102K miles. Very well taken care of otherwise.

    Thanks

A 96 with only 102k? It's probably worth it. A lot of newer grand prixs have way more on their odometers. Plus the 96 is gorgeous

Coolant seems like a really small leak if you're able to just check on it, do you know where it is leaking from? I have heard there is a product that can run through a coolant system and seal up small leaks, I haven't tested it personally though.

As for the security system i would just see if someone can help you disconnect it altogether until maybe you could check the wires and grounds.

Maybe someone can back me up on this, as the "overnight shift" isn't as popular. Plus I'm on about 36 hours of being awake.

Welcome to the forums, hope we can help!

Idk **** about security systems so can't help you on that one.

Don't use that coolant stop leak stuff it will only cause more problems than it will fix. I got 10 bucks that says it the hose that runs under the intake, just pull of the intake and replace the hose.

Thanks guys... If I end up selling the car, what do you think a fair price would be in this condition? Picture of my car is on my profile.

Keep it, original owner and 102k miles, and is that's your ride in your profile pic thing looks clean! I had two GPs from that generation and loved them! Im sure the issue will just take a little more research and it should be solved.

As for value if its pristine I wouldn't be surprised if you could get an offer of 2500 stick.

did you replace the timing belt on it? the belt should be replaced at 100,000 miles and then every 75,000 after that.

locations for possible coolant leaks are the lower intake manifold gaskets or the heater core lines that come from the lower intake manifold.

another issue these engines have is an oil leak from the oil pump drive shaft and its located just under the TB. it is very expensive to have fixed professionally but if you ever have problems clean it and JB weld it shut.

the alternator is a PITA to replace. and most mech's that look at the engine treat it like lost wreckage from Roswell!!!

all that being said i love the engine I got 214,000 miles out of my 96 DOHC and only swapped to the 3800 because of the availability of replacement and performance parts
