I have 96 gtp just wanting to know what some relitivly cheap performance updates and/or addons i can do. Also wanting to put new exhast on it (it currntly has stock). What muffler should i use. I would like it to sound like a v8 (low and deep) any thoughts. Thanks for the help.

you should probably post this in the 3.4 section lol.
but as far as exhaust goes, get a downpipe to get rid of the stock one as the stock one is really restrictive, borla mufflers are the best sounding mufflers IMO, and if you want ideas for some mods check out the 3.4 section.

I'm sure the mods will move the thread, but to answer the question in the meantime...

There really aren't any bolt on modifications that will make much of a difference. You can get a chip and a smaller/lighter underdrive pulley, but the impact will be negligible, and you already have the better top end, so you don't even need to upgrade to that.

In order to REALLY unleash the LQ1's performance potential, you need to do some custom headwork, and slap on a custom turbo set-up. The combo of these two will make the supercharged 3800 feel like a Chevy Metro. It is not uncommon to put down well over 200hp at the wheels with just headwork, or 350 at the wheel on a turbo set up with low boost. Unfortunately, none of the parts for this will be off the shelf stuff, or cheap. That's the main downfall to the LQ1.

For the exhaust, I've never really heard ANY mufflers sound bad on the GM 60° motors, as opposed to the 90° motors where I haven't heard ANY exhaust set up sound GOOD.

    Custom Cold air intake.

You'll never make a 6 sound like an 8, but damn if Aweb80s car isn't close. He has a 3100 with a 3400 topswap in his pregen.

i have the same motor as your GTP. you can look at my mod list bellow for idea.

a tune is the fastest way to pick up a good amount of power. the stock spark table is lacking in the low end. there isn't anything off the shelf for these cars. the only set of headers that exist are $1000! and if you want to have ported intake manifolds and TB's you have to make them yourself.

I'm interested in the 3.4 stats as well. Is the quad cam 3.4 the same one that comes in the olds alero? does any1 know the weight of the 3.4?
@ RareGMFan kinda curious about your cars build....

the olds alero was a 3400 and not the 3.4L DOHC. i dont know the weight of the dohc but it is pretty heavy. yes it is AL heads but the 4 cams and then the cam carriers too... id venture to say it weights as much as a L67! and im being serious
