How can you tell if the EGR tube has split if it has the heat shield on it? I looked at the outside of the shield and it is still silver looking except for 2 hot spots. Does this indicate a split tube? If so, how do you replace it?
    Thanks

Just rip that Heat wrap/cloth off. You could check buy squirting some soapy water on the tube while the engine is running (best to spray on a running "cold" engine that hasn't warmed up one all the way, or the water will evap to quick). Not to sure if you can buy new EGR tubes, might be able to make one if you find the proper metal, but everyone on here will say that if you get to a point where you have the EGR off...keep it off and seal up the holes with some home made metal plates.

^ that... i just did the same.... took no time and very easy. i used copper rtv, a nickel, a penny, and the egg shaped brackets that came off EGR. car runs alot better and leak free. my gas mileage was not affected at all. You also dont have to remove throttle body.

Mine doesn't have heat cloth for a shield. It is some sort of corragated metal. If I block it off won't it throw error codes?

Probably the same sort of metal that is/was on my stock manifolds.
    If I were you id:
    -remove the heat metal
-spray to see if any leaks
-if a leak, Use JB cold weld, smear it on the leak
    -toss the metal back on
If you do take the EGR off the SES code will be something like, EGR not receiving electrical input, but ya, I haven't noticed a difference in fuel econ.

The only reason I'm worried about the SES is my state does emission testing and it won't pass with the light on. Before you say it no I'm not going to tear the dash apart to remove the bulb. How much is a tuned pcm and where would I buy it?

    Thanks

Whether the bulb is on or off has 100% nothing to do with if you would pass an emissions test .

They plug into your PCM and test the emissions with sensors placed in your exhaust pipes. Get a custom tune so that the codes don't show when they scan your pcm, egr removal with have no change with the cars exhaust levels.

If your worried about not passing, you've been giving the easiest method of fixing your problem, as for tuned pcms, about $100, thats my guess, ive never bought a tune off the net.

You've never lived in Maryland. If the light is on don't bother trying to get it tested. They don't care what is wrong and they don't plug in on a car this old (1994). They just tailpipe test. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
