So here's the deal, I have a 99 Grand am sitting around that has a seized engine (3.4L) and my buddy has a-i want to say 95 grand prix with the 3.4L Dohc Engine that he wrapped around a tree, the engine/tranny are still in good shape, anyways, i was wondering two things:
First what is the engine/tranny worth
and second, is it pretty much a plug and play swap, or do you have to do a bunch of dicking around

    Dicking around.

    A LOT of it.

You'd be better off finding a 3400 and boosting it.

The only reason I was wondering was because i have access to a cheap engine/tranny, i'm going to sell the car to someone I know if i dont fix it, but i figured if my buddy sold me the engine/tranny for 250 and it would go in reasonably easy I could make a quick buck, otherwise i really don't want to do a engine swap, grand ams aren't worth a whole hell of a lot out by me, that is why the car is sitting

Yea, I can understand that....But you would even need the computer and everything out of the car with the Quad cam V6. The 3400's computer has different timing settings and everything programed and your check engine light wouldn't go off. I'm also getting the same 3.4 for my '90 Grand Prix because I'm only doing the top end and computer swap....But on those engines you need to remove the intake manifold to get at the spark plugs, and it goes through timing belts mad quick
