WRong order on the plugs wires is my guess and unplugged injectors.

Front is 1,3,5, rear is 2,4,6.

Plug order should still be the same for front and back, just something to double check.

popping out the intake is almost always crossed plug wires.

I agree that spark plug wires installed on the wrong cylinder is the most likely cause of popping through the intake. The cylinder location on a 3.1 is different than a 3.8. The front bank is 2,4,6 and rear bank is 1,3,5. Here are some pictures from Alldata:

The other possibility is you did not put the pushrods in the correct spots. The intake pushrods are shorter than the exhaust pushrods.

I've done one of these where the lifters wouldn't collapse when reinstalling the pushrods causing it to sound like no compression and popping out the intake. I ended up loosening up the rocker arms slightly which closed the valves, started the car, then torqued them down. Worked like a charm. This was my last resort stuff though. Obviously check the other stuff posted first.

Did you put that vacuum tube on top of the TB back in place? IIRC it's not easy to see the hole due to a bracket on the TB. But if it's missing, you'll have a hell of a time.

My car sounded cammed yesterday. hooked the brake booster back up and it purrs.. odd how that works.
