Hello, I was driving to school two weeks ago and I happened to run out of gas. My fuel gauge never worked When I got te car a year ago, so I have had to calculate my mileage. Well I was a bit short that time. Anyway, after that happened my check engine light came one. A couple days later we had a good cold snap, and I noticed driving to school my car was running unusually hot. Uptowrds 220. The next day it topped off at 240. Curious I had my dad take the car to Albert lea to have the codes pulled at Adavced Auto. He never made it there because the car just shut off. Now it turns over, kinda sounds like only one cylinder fires but it won't catch and stay running. Any ideas anyone? I think it may be a fuel pump related thing since I ran out of gas, or a blown head gasket due to the unnormal running temp, or even a fuel pump problem with a bad thermostat. Would really appreciate any help for ideas. Thanks for reading this all if you have, I know it's long but it's important I get this figured out before to long!

Get a can of starter fluid and spray it into the intake or throttle body while someone attempts to crank the car. If its starts or comes close to starting fuel issue and could be the fuel pump.

I'm going to bet you blew a headgasket. You shouldn't have kept driving it with it getting that hot.

I checked my fuel pressure today and there is no fuel pressure in fuel rail. Could this be a cause on why it doesn't start

    Yup..no fuel = no start.

Main components to a engine is fuel and spark without one your not going anywhere lol.

228F is when the high speed fans come on. 240F is getting warm, not usually enough to blow a head gasket though.

There is no evidence of it being costly yet.

OP, 3.1's are known for having LIM leak issues, not so much head gaskets. Although it sounds like you don't have fuel and that can cause a issue with running.

OP, running hot is definately not a good thing.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Well I know the gas tank is fuel because I filled it up a day before it quit working and it was only drove 50 miles so I know it's not out of gas this time. It's currently at my moms technical college that she attends getting looked at by students, because it's way cheaper then towing it to a shop. I'll post what exactly the problem is when they get it looked at; but then main instructor is almost positive it's a fuel pump issue. With the overheating part being not a good coolent to water ratio mix. But i'll Post what they find out soon

Well I got the news today, and it was severely over heated and melted aluminum. Weird, because it never hit 260, and the engine temp light never came on

The light probably never came on because the water was too low to activate the light.
