    Im having trouble with my 1998 grand prix. Again.

    The battery is dying after a short while. we've pulled fuses and checked for a spark on all of them.
    After trial and error, we found that battery main 1 and 2, both 60 amp fuses, whilst pulled provide no spark.
    What do these fuses control/power?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    On a side note, my traction control light is acting up, too. It's showing that the trac is off, whether or not I hit the button. Although, during the fuse checking process, we had turned on the car for some reason- I dont remember- but I noticed the light wasn't on.

    Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Let me get this straight:

    You suspect a short somewhere in the system that is draining the battery?
    Why are you looking at the fuses?
    It's a CUMMINS Dodge not a Dodge Cummins

    you just put in a aftermarket radio?


    your fuses have nothing to do with parasitic power loss.

    something is being left on and drawing power when the car is off.

    or your battery is on its way out.

    Just replaced the battery. Not really suspecting a short. all in all, I just need to know what the battery main fuse 1 and 2 do. Im pretty sure I got the other issue figured out. No new radio.

    more than likely they are just some buss fuses, they have nothing to do with your problem. if one was blown you would have a major electrical failure on your hands.

    if your battery dies over night you have whats called parasitic power loss. aka something drawing power when the key is in the off position. this is why i asked if you had installed a aftermarket radio lately. but you keep talking about fuses.......

    Because I know it has to do with the fuses. Nothing has been installed. It's all stock. I understand the Parasitic power loss. None of the fuses are blown, but something is drawing off the battery and that's the easiest way to find out (OBDII reader is an exception) With the trial and error system, you can find out whats drawing off the battery. Thats why I need to know what these fuses control, to help narrow down the possibilities. take off your negative cable, remove a fuse, rub the negative cable on its respective terminal, and, if it sparks, you know that that fuse is not related to the issue. When you finally find one that doesnt spark, you know that that area is the issue. Had this issue with my honda, turned out my passenger door was drawing energy for some reason. Took out that fuse and no more battery drain. Albeit I can no longer use that window, I dont really mind, as I have A/C. Do you see what I'm saying?

    As I said before: all I really need to know is what those two fuses control. I've looked every where I could and found nothing on those two fuses. Any help on this subject would be appreciated.

    no idea where or what they go to, but id leave them alone.

    id put a ohm meter on the battery and see what the draw is on it when the cars off. start pulling fuse till the meter goes back up.

    so un hook the battery, test it hook it back up test it again. see if there's draw and how much. from years ago any thing more then .7 amps or something like that was to much. memory from a stereo draws up to 3, if its hooked up so you have to turn the radio off it will sometimes draw up to 10 and kill the battery over night.

    you can also test to make sure the alt is charging properly. with the car off you want to see over 12 or more volts in the battery, with the car running test the battery, you want up to 14 tops or your over charging, 13.6 to 9 is preferred. anything under 13 and thats no good either.

    60 AMP fuses?
    At 12.5 volts thats over 1200 watts so it probably can't just be eliminated.
    If they were 10 or 15 AMP I'd say maybe.

    The best way to diagnose this is with a DC current clamp. Just find which wire at the fuse panel(s) is drawing a ton of current when the car is off.

    I see what you're doing with the "spark test" but this may be misleading.

    have you at least tested the alt? lord knows if you jump it every morning and it makes it through the day, the alt could just be bad, and your chasing your tail.

    I'm saying ive narrowed it down to this. The alternator is disconnected for this. We found that the alternator is on its way out, but its okay for now.
