So i go to go out to eat and get in and try to start the car and it turns over like normal, but then dies....

Try starting it again and nothing. Turn the key and nothing at all, no lights no horn. Check the fuses and didn't see anything, battery was just replaced back in April(brandon and cole should remember that) so the battery is my last thought. checked the volts on the battery and its dead..less then 1v. So i try jumping it off with our trunk and nothing again, lights and horn turn the key and it trys to start but dies, my guess is that battery is bad so i take it out and take it to advance auto(where i got it) they test it and say its good...now im confused.

How can they battery test good if it has less then 1v???? So i'm taking it to work and testing with our tester and see what happens. Just thought id get some thoughts and opinions from others..

The battery has to be charged to test it... sounds like they don't want to make good on a warranty claim... I'd test it at your work like you said and if it tests bad, make them replace it. Once you get a good battery in test your alternator!

Thats my thoughts and thats the plain, the altrnator has been getting worse lately but thats not causing this problem, maybe it killed the battery in the long run tho. idk just have to see what happens when i test the battery

Your problem is confusing. You said it turned over like normal then died. If it cranked over normal, then the battery isnt dead or down to 1 volt. You may be dealing with a faulty connection somewhere in your starting/charging circuit. If your battery indeed tests good, the next thing is to check your ground. A voltage drop test would be your next step. A single strand of wire can carry 12 volts but will not provide proper amperage to all the electrical components.

alright well i fixed it. Got home and tested the bare battery again and it read over 12v. so i looked at the wires, grounds and other stuff. took a can of brake clean and carb cleaner and cleaned everything i could, pulled the pos cable cover off(all the red rubber surrounding the wires) and its was very nasty. cleaned and scrubbed everything. put it back together and it fired right up, idk if it was one thing or all the wires being dirty but whatever its fixed.

Tony- I know its confusing, the car started up like normal and then died, then i had nothing. checked the voltage at the battery and it was less then 1v but when i took the cable off the battery and rechecked the voltage on the battery itself it was over 12v, so i started cleaning

    Yup... normal.. bad connection.

Neighbor kid's car wouldn't start after 2 week vacation.. Charged it.. fired. Kid drives enough.. car won't start. I touched the positive cable.. fired right up.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
