Hello all! So, as I have found out on this forum, my husband and I have the all too common overheating issues. We removed the top of the motor yesterday and replaced the head gaskets (although I'm almost positive the problem is the LIM gaskets, he wanted to try this first). Anyhow, I have the top of the engine back together, but having a little trouble figuring out where some of the wires plug into, but mostly the area I'm having problems putting back together is to the right side of the engine. I can't figure out how to post pics. Any help or links would be much appreciated!

More specifically, there is a little black box shaped thing, I believe it goes in the back center of the top of the motor, it has two bolts in it and connects to a plug and has a rubber thing the connects to the motor, cant seem to get it to all fit together because the bolts are locked into the box.

It sounds like she's completely stock and a 3.1L, so it'd look more like this.

Thanks everyone, got that on and everything plugged into it, I guess I'll be using this forum quite a bit, we are constantly working on this car, changed all of the hoses, water pump, thermostat, everything we could think of, then I found this forum and started reading about the 3100's, sounds like we have more engine work to do, what I don't understand is we don't have water or fuel in the oil, and nothing in our water, does it sound like the LIM gaskets to yall?

It has been overheating off and on for a year. We have replaced all the hoses, thermostat a few times, radiator cap, water pump, everything we could think of. I found this forum and began reading about the 3100 and it seems like we have some more work to do, we don't have any water or anything in our oil though.

Has the coolant system been bled? Sounds like you may have air in the system.

I'm not sure, one day while it was overheated a guy came up and told me about these two little valves, he said to turn them just enough to expose the hole in it and it would release the built up air, not sure if thats what you are talking about, I had no idea they were even there or what they were for, we've done that several times since then, but the water pouring out as quick as I put it in is driving me crazy because I just don't know where it's coming from.

We replaced the top intake gaskets, put everything back together, all hoses and everything we had to removed were put back how they were originally, now it acts as if it's out of time, it wasn't before. Not sure what's wrong. Help!

Yes I believe so, we marked the sparkplugs so we would know where they went. Husband's double-checking now.

Did you torque the rocker arms back down right and put the push rods in the correct order?

We didn't have to mess with the rocker arms or rods, just removed the top of the motor and replaced the gaskets.

You would have had to have messed with that stuff to change the lim gasket.

just the intake gasket, only removed the top of the motor, and the stuff attached to the top portion of the motor, replaced gaskets and put everything back together, now it won't stay running without keeping my foot on the gas, and it sounds like it's missing, but we marked he plugs so i know they are in the right places
