I have a 2001 grand prix with the 3.1 motor. When the motor reaches operating temp. I hear a whining noise coming from the engine bay whenever i give it throttle. Is this normal for this engine?
I think it may be the water pump but not sure. Any Suggestions? Thanks, Chiller449

Get rid of that sewing machine and get a real motor.

no supercharger and power steering is fine. i talked to another guy and he pointed out that i have some rust around the pully on my ac unit and that it might be giving a whining noise when hot. what do you think?

It's possible that the ac compressor is going bad. Try spraying some wd40 or pb blaster on the clutch of the compressor and see if the noise lessens.
