I have a friend who has a 2000 Grand Prix with the 3.1l who is having some problems with his car....im not sure on the mileage but I know that his fuel gauge stopped working, his AC vents are messed up, and now his door lock is broken. I think I know how to fix the door lock and I haven't really looked at his AC but I guess my main question is....

How do you go about finding out what exactly is wrong with the fuel gauge?

I don't know if it is a float in the gas tank, if its a sensor, ir if the needle is stuck. He is supposed to come over on friday and I am going to take a look at it but I am not really familiar with Grand Prix's....Hyundai's, Mitsubishi's, and Nissan's are kinda my forte.

But any help would be appreciated and woot woot this is my first post here.

Sounds like the float to me, happens fairly often. Time for a new fuel pump assembly.

Do a little research, you obviously have internet access, so use it to find prices, sorry, but there is no "Help guaranteed within 24hrs" sign on our site, if you need help, that's fine, but be patient and keep the sarcasm at home.....

Fuel tank floats are very similar if not the same in all cars, it is a float connected to a lever, connected to a potentiometer, to test it you need to either pull it from the tank and ohm it while moving the float, or find a way to test it while in the car

I agree, we are here to help, but that doesn't mean someone will come to your aid in an hour or two. Just calm down man. People will help you when they can, but it isn't always on your time schedule.

As for the floats....this is a common problem on these cars. My first GTP, the gas gauge was always all messed up. I bought a used fuel pump assembly for like $75, dropped it in, and it worked fine. So that is what you might have to do. But test it first to make sure.

I'm not going to comment on this post because it will probably get me banned, but would consist of the gp your woking on, your so called undetectable @$$holes, and where you can shove the none working gas guage. I think we have a awsome grand prix family here. I guess there's got to be one retard outta the group.
