The only blue coolant that I know of comes in some of the newer Hondas, and the only difference is it's supposed to last longer than the green (100k miles vs. 60k miles). Now whether that's what's actually in your radiator, or whether it's something else (previous owner did something idiotic like put windshield washer fluid in??), I can't really say.
Your car came from the factory with Dexcool (red/orange), which certainly has a lot of critics, and has led to many issues (enough so that a class-action lawsuit was filed against GM). I'd have it completely flushed out, and just use good old fashioned green coolant.
maybe it just looks blue cuz someone mixed green coolant in with orange dexcool
thats the color of my windshield washer fluid after switching from orange winter to green summer fluid
I was thinking that after I hit submit. Man, I sure hope not, because mixing Dexcool with regular stuff is a no-no. Either way, I'd get it COMPLETELY flushed out as soon as you can, and start from scratch with green coolant.
I’d bet you a steak dinner it is windshield washing fluid. Don’t freak there are worse things that could have been put in there.
Flush it out and change your coolant immediately.
heheh, i can only hope it is not wiper fluid i have been rolling with since september, i believe it is zerex g-05 blue. heading to napa auto to check it out.
looks like green is the preferred coolant for the 3.1 with a stock radiator, good to hear, i need to find out if mine is stock or has aluminum core, just dont want corrosion.
thank you
Well, I guess it could actually be blue coolant. But let’s be real about it. First of all there are only a couple blue coolants. And they are not really commonly available, and are a little pricy. Also, the only blue coolant I know from Zerex is G-48, G-05 is yellow. So unless the previous owner broke down in front of a Saab dealership, and needed coolant, the chances are pretty good the blue stuff in your radiator isn’t Zerex coolant. Or maybe, the guy was a maintenance freak and heard all the bad stuff about Dexcool. Then and somehow concluded the best choice was a hard to get blue coolant not really intended to be used for his car.

I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
correct sir, the g-o5 comes in 2 or 3 shades, all not blue. i did purchase the blue coolant, dont think its zerex, comes in a 1.25 liter container, undiluted, long lasting stuff, dont know why they used this in my radiator, but i dont want to mix w something else nor do i want flush out the most expensive coolant i have come across yet. its in my trunk, i will post the name when i go back to car.
thanks guys
green, yellow and blue are the same coolant. it all depends on manufacture and what dye they use. what you want to use is ethylene-glycol. it is much easier on your gaskets. dex-cool is propelene-glycol. dex-cool is more enviromentally friendly where green is not. thats the differences. if you mix the 2 together your get the color of mud and the consistencey of mud to. plugs off steam passages. ford use to use blue coolant 10-15 yrs. ago. i don't know about now.
