see cant we 3.1 3.8 owners all get along

but since blue is on this thread id like to pick ya brain for a quick sec
should i get headers.. or Plog and downpipe?
headers is the cheaper route(ebay) but im afraid i will lose low end trq.. and i hear a plog and downpipe supposedly wont do that.. im staying N/A(i think) so what would you do?
    oh im a 3.8, not a 3.1

OK, since you mention headers, Milzy Motorsports offers ported exhaust manifolds for 3.1/3.4. Whats your take on a DIY porting job on our own manifolds?

But if I do it myself all it will cost is time. Although I never dropped both manifolds before.

Another bit of stuff that needs clearing up...you don't "lose low end" with headers...it may FEEL like it...but all that headers do...besides gain tons better flowing capabilites over stock...is they shift the powerband UPwards. So it might FEEL like you lost some "low end torque" but in fact it just moved that TQ to the upper RPM range where your factory exhaust failed to move air at. Not only that, but you'll see better MPG's, stonger up top powerband (which most GM V6 cars lacked), a better exhaust note, and a smoother delivery of power...not the sudden "rush" that your used to right off the bat with manifolds. Which will also help from a dead stop...something that I really loved after putting headers on my GTP.

What kind of gain do you think the 3.1 will get with headers, cat back exhaust, u Bend delete, 2.5 inch DP with high flow cat, intake, and some sort of cold air intake starting with 175 HP like on my 3.1?

That's 175 CRANK HORSEPOWER. Which I'd be shocked if your car made 175 to the wheels with all of those things done to it. Seriously. A 2.8 MPFI guy with an intake and custom headers-full exhaust only made 128 WHEEL HP. Granted...the 2.8 was junk...but still.

Thanx. And yes I do realize that is Net 175 HP, not Wheel HP, so regardless of the starting point any guestimate on how much net HP those changes would make without internal changes which I would not do on this engine?

You know what I'd do if I owned something with a 3100?

    Just drive it.

    Forealz.

Save your money and get something faster with a better aftermarket...hell even the LS4 cars have a better aftermarket than the 3100...and all the money you toss into it, even if it DID beat a N/A 3800...like I said...your beating something that runs 16's/15's. Which honestly, I wouldn't brag about unless I was 16.

You are totally correct! Not interested in racing the GP, just driving it-it's going to my daughter any how in a year-the less power the better! Thanx.
