Something I LOL at most often...but copgtp hit the nail on the head here: So much misinformation I can't even begin to comment.

Tell you people what...I'll quit hating when you provide me with video's of your 3100's beating 3800 cars...and their dyno charts proving the gains your claiming.

Also dpzelenak...I averaged over 29 mpg driving to Iowa and back in my heads/cam GTP making probably 3 times as much power as your 3800...ujellybreh.
    THANK YOU

I laughed my ass off when I read that he gained horsepower by going from a stock single to a stock dual. The dual exhaust is just for looks. The single is more effecient and would be an upgrade powerwise because of that. Also its lighter so thats an upgrade there.

Its laughable how the 3.1 boys think that the 3.8 guys are "hating" on them. The fact is the 3.8 comes with more power from the factory and stock for stock, modded for modded the 3.8 wins every time.

480 miles to be exact, and that was with the wife and the dog int the back and the truck loaded with atleast 200 pounds of camping junk. and thats not all straight roads from london ontario to parry sound and back to london, roads get VERY hilly around parry sound.

3.8 isnt sucking that much fuel then your 3.1, if it is it has not been maintaned properly.

you guys sure hate us 3.8 owners lol. dont get mad im just sharing what info i have to share

who cares what the exhaust its just piping,
and who cares about beating a 3800?,
and the funny part is that ppl keep comparing the 3100 to the 3800, there to completly different platforms, the only thing they share is the car, so theres is no need to compare the too
oh and blue, i could give a **** less about your highway mileage, at crusing speeds babing it on the highway yeah i bet you do get good mpgs

You may be missing a point here. The 3.8 guys are HERE IN THE 3.1 subforum making comparisons. What would you do if the V8 guys came to the 3.8 subforum and pointed out how they have more performance than you. Still laughable? Again, this section should be apples to apples.

Read again. The 3.1 guy is the one who started making the comparisons.

i was really hoping we wouldnt get to the point of comparing the two engines...because the 3800 is just a better engine. and i own a 3100. lol

and as for exhaust single vs dual, it doesnt really make too much of a difference because not many people on here are making so much horse that it causes a disturbance....i think a single 3" pipe would be sufficient for most cases

A single 3" pipe is sufficient for a 350 SBC reving to a max of 6000 RPM....

So again.... Why would you want that on a 191 or a 231 cube motor?

    You mean comparisons like this:

"The point is a lightly modified 3.1 can be easily made fairly equivalent to a stock 3.8 single exhaust V6 pretty easily for short money"

I chose to use the word "comparison" to keep this friendly and mature. Bashing was my first choice. So why should this provoke the 3.8 guys to rag on him? Geez.....

missed the whole point of my statements... i was just saying that the 3100 is a good engine, i wasn't trying to say stock v stock or mod v mod the 3100 could win.... obviously it cannot, the 3100 is a smaller engine with less hp and torque! anyone foolish enough to make the claim that 3100 vs 3800 with equivalent mods/stock and the 3100 will win, is a buffoon! but i have a 3100 and i want to mod it as best as i can, i dont plan on dumping a lot of money into it so i dont want to swap engines or anything like that... i mean heck why get the 3800 when you can get the 5.3? that is the equivalent argument you are giving me when i say i want to mod something on my 3100! oh get a 3800 they are so much better! okay p*** off and go pick up an ls9 crate and drop it into a grand prix.... sorry i don't have money to burn and am trying to mod on a budget

Actually...I'd take the 3800 because of its VAST aftermarket compared to the LS4...plus the LS4 isn't a very desired engine on the WBody platform. I understand budget...trust me. I don't see why you couldn't toss a 3400/3500 Top End on the cheap...snag up a bigger throttle body...toss a cone filter on the end of the MAF sensor...get a set of ported manifolds and a DP...and have it tuned. Everyone here still thinks I'm hating...when in fact I'm trying to help...all I'm looking for is hard evidence that "X" mod gives you "Y" amount of power...take it to a drag strip...go get a video running a 3800 car. All this talk bores me. You want to mod the 3100 more? Ask me...I'd be glad to help...it's the ignorant claims and leading people in the wrong direction and seriously thinking things that can't happen...like running down a car that is EXACTLY the same in every way with a motor that is rated...at...

160 hp/185 ft.lbs...if you have a '97-'99 SE...170 hp/190 ft.lbs with the updated top end crap in the '00-'03's...against something with even the same gear ratios...lol being rated with anywhere from 35-45hp MORE...and 55-60 more TQ.

I'm just tossing out plain, easy to see...black and white numbers.

so ill take my 170 hp dd all day long getting good gas mileage and still being able to beat other cars on the road...
Funny...you say that. I don't drive my car easy kiddo, I beat on it like it owes me money. Just finished a nice 100+ mile round trip today in the car actually. According to the awfully inaccurate DIC in these cars, between city and highway and more than 5 WOT runs...DIC is telling me 29.3. So, I must be doing something wrong in my inefficient, lower grade than a 3100; 3800...since I mean, I drive anywhere from 75-85 all the time...using anywhere from COASTING...to MEDIUM...to FULL throttle. It's all in the tune, boss.

So, I'll take my 300+ FWHP car all day long getting good gas mileage and still being able to beat cars that run faster than 13's in the 1/4 on the road, not 16's.

Ummm...LOL...just see what I bolded there guy, tell me if that makes ANY sense to you. Pretty sure last time I checked...you have a WBody just like I do...and I'm pretty sure that is the SAME platform...lol. Plenty of platforms come with different engine choices. I'd LOVE for you, or JBAMonte guy...or someone that actually cares to show numbers put something up here. I even tried finding youtube video's...and they got nothing but pre-'97 cars taking 5 years to get to 60...except this guys car...which I guess has a new LG8 swapped in...with a ported TB, intake...and cut off mufflers...yay! Which...I figured it looked like 9-ish seconds to 60...and another 5+ seconds to get from 60 to 80...Impressive enough...when your 16.

    Yeah...what headers are you buying?
