for some reason on the 3.1L there are two of them, the only reason I know this is because we had a car at school that the rear one broke and the techs kept replacing the one under the balancer and couldn't figure out why the flash code kept coming back..... It may not be All years but I have def. witnessed the second crank pos sensor as well...... on a side note, the rear one likes to leak oil too.... damn cheap factory parts

NOOOO NOOOO NOOOOO ther is only one crank sensor on the Vin T 3.1 I know from personal experience that its on the back of the engine bock dead center just abouve te oil pan in etween the engine and transmision. I've changed mine before and broke he head off and had to drop te oil pan to get it out... As for the computer autozone sells them 80 bucks with exchange and the car does not need to be towed to any dealer to be programed. here is a cover on the computer and you take hat off it covers the eprom.. And you don't know what that is its the memory for te computer. You do the same thing for the new computer and plug your eprom into it and Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No towing anywhere

Im kinda curious as to how you can claim to be right from the first.

Here is your first post in this thread:
You stated you had a set of coils and ICM to sell. Why you change coil packs and ICM when you think you have a bad plug is beyond me, but nonetheless.

And here is your second post in this thread:

You mentioned nothing about the ignition system to say nothing of your spelling. You must not be heeding our attempts to point out to you that what you are posting here tends to be little to no use to anyone. You could at least be factual about your own information you are posting.

that's why I rarely test one, they fail under heat, and the tester can't get them hot enough

Ok, for everyone I am sorry to bring back a mont old thread, but As i stated there are 2 crank pos. sensors on the 3.1, there is one on the side of the block, and one under the harmonic balancer, I

Quote from autozone repair manual for BOTH CPS sensors!! :
    3.1L (VIN M) Engines

    3X CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Turn the steering wheel to the full left position.
    3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
    4. Detach the sensor harness connector from the sensor.
    5. Unfasten the sensor retaining bolts, then remove the sensor from the engine.
    6. Inspect the sensor O-ring for damage, and replace, if necessary.

    To install:

    7. If necessary, lubricate a new O-ring with clean engine oil and install on the sensor. Install the sensor into the engine.
    8. Install the sensor retaining bolt. Tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    9. Attach the sensor harness connector.
    10. Carefully lower the vehicle.
    11. Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position, then connect the negative battery cable.

    24X CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Remove the serpentine belt from the crankshaft pulley.
    3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
    4. If necessary for access, remove the right front wheel and inner fender access cover.
    5. Unfasten the crankshaft harmonic balancer retaining bolt, then remove the harmonic balancer using tool J 24420-B.
    6. Detach the sensor electrical connector.
    7. Unfasten the sensor retaining bolts, then remove the sensor from the vehicle.

    To install:
    8. Install the CKP sensor and secure using the retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 8 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
    9. Attach the sensor electrical connector.
    10. Install the balancer on the crankshaft using special tool J 29113, or equivalent.
    11. Apply thread sealer 1052080 or equivalent to the bolt threads of the crankshaft balancer bolt. Tighten the bolt to 110 ft. lbs. (150 Nm).
    12. If removed, install the inner fender shield and the right front wheel and tire assembly. Tighten the wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
    13. Carefully lower the vehicle.
    14. Install the serpentine belt.
    15. Connect the negative battery cable.
