    I am working on my little brothers car and it had been over heating checked the oil and was milkiyish on dip stick some one told me head gaskets well I just tore it down and took the heads off and the gaskets look old but not cracked or have holes in them was told it could be the block is there a way to check this with out putting the car all back together with new head gaskets. Or any other options on what it could be befor put it back together to find out I need to tear it down again

    3100 is know for head gasket and lim gasket failure. either or could have let the coolant in the oil is my guess.

    lower intake manifold, upper manifold, those gaskets.

    milk shake up the push rods, thats coolant in the oil act for sure.

    well I have new head gaskets and the gasket that came off the top of heads for where the intake man attached did not look bad but will replace them as well thanks for the help

    the whole engine does now. it needs to be cleaned out, a few oil and filter changes after its back together should do it. clean everyt hting else thats off the car of course flush the valley with oil.

    you may want to take the pan off if its not to much of a pita clean that out too. not sure what it takes on a 3100.

    K will do and what's best to clean all that with some one told me carb cleaner is that true or is ere something better to use and I'm not sure on

    engine de greaser and a garden hose for all the parts off the engine. blower em dry or wipe em dry, leave out in the sun to dry up nice so it dont rust up.

    brake cleaner for the engine its self, flush the valley with oil, it drops right in the pan. take the oil filter off let that all drain out from there.

    your still gonna have some milkshake left in the oil pump and lifters and oil galleys of the block, why you clean it up best you can, put all back together, then a fresh oil and filer, run the car for like 3 or minutes, then dump the oil and filter, then new oil once more, make sure its clean on the dip stick, if its milky looking or dirty looking change it once more.

    I had that on a Beretta Z26, did the intake and head gaskets. Added Gunk motor flush to the oil, ran for 10 minutes and changed the oil and filter. It was fine after that .
