long story short, heads got damaged and so I replaced them off another car, reassembled it all and wouldn't start so then rethinking realized both engines were on different strokes, now its basically out of time, can I fix it without taking off the timing chain cover?

Removing the heads does not take it out of time. You don't remove the timing chain to do this job.

It doesnt matter if each cylinder was in a different spot of both motors. You likely have a different issue.

What could it be,the car ran great before just blowed gaskets and then a rocker arm bolt stripped out so we just replaced heads and lower and upper intake,it's cranking as if there were no plug wires hooked up and my compression tester never showed any compression

Something is keeping the valves open then.

Are the intake and exhaust pushrods different lengths?? Did you make sure to put everything back in the same spot you took them from. I haven't taken a 3.1 apart like this, but those are just things that come to mind.

Just hope you didn't knocked out the valves. That can occur when the push rods are not put correctly.

Yup half are longer, usually you'll bend the pushrods so take it down again and start checking. I've seen a lot of people swap a couple of pushrods or the whole set it's usually one or the other.
An engine is an engine no matter the size.... I think Dr. Seuss said that... or maybe it was Big Weld....

I believe the exhaust rod are the long one and the intake are to short ones. I have an 01 GP se with a 3.1 and I recently did the heads on it.
