So I have a project in mind that involves a rwd 3800. Question is will a t5 hold 500+ whp or can it be built to hold that power in a car that will only weigh 2500-. Or how possibly is bolting a t56 to a 3800?

they were working on T56 bellhousing adapters a little while back, but i am not sure anything ever happened with it.

building the T5 seems to be the route you'd have to take unless you did something custom, but that trans isn't going to like lots of power.

I've heard that the T5 is weak, not sure where or if it's credible.

T5s are weak and have to be built. There is a T56 adapter for the 3800 that's available out of Auzzie land, I'm not sure about the clutch or situation though. T56 would be the way to go though.

I was - still am a huge mustang fan. In all honesty, the T5 is not known for being a strong transmission. Most T5's on stock Mustangs will experience bad synchos on 2-3 or gear popouts around 100k if driven hard and poorly. On the flip side, if you are a good driver and aren't constantly abusing the tranny, I've seen them survive 400+whp applications. But for hard usage I'd say to build it or get the T56. Anything that is pushing over 400 torque is going to put serious stress on a stock T5.

Anything over 400 whp isn't going to be that good with a t56 either...

2002 Trans Am- 6 speed, bolt ons or something, it's slow.

You need to do some Googling. There are people well over 600 whp with T56 and even some nearing 1000 whp

A stock t56 is going to suck with 600hp, let along 1000. A stock one will never last at that kind of power, it just will not happen. I'm in the middle of a big turbo fbody build with a t56... I know
