I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged. The problem I'm having is when I get to 35-45 MPH the RPMs will decrease but the car still speeds up and doesn't seem like it is shifting, then it will shift shortly after that. So I'm thinking its when it goes into 4th gear. Is there a selenoid that could be bad? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Edit: maybe torque converter problem?

your feeling the torque converter locking up. od dont kick in till 43 mph. and od dont really work till the trans is up to temp, or warmed up some at least.

    id say its fine.

You can gently touch the brake without lifting off the gas and the tcc will release That way you know it was engaged in the first place.

Thanks for the help. Just sucks not having all that power when I want to get on it. It hesitates to get going fast again.

Shift into 3rd first. Or use more foot on the pedal.

high way speed in what you think is od. keep the gas going with your other foot just tap the brake pedal, enough to make the brake lights come on. when you tap the brakes the tack should go up 2 to 400 rpm then drop back lower where they were. thats the tc unlocking, then locking back up.
