Greetings all, first post.
My '02 GT is starting to have shifting issues at 255k (I know, SHOCKING!)
anyway, I have run the code and it stated TCC sticking and the symptoms were a hard shift at about 45 MPH, wildly moving tach at a steady 60 MPH and occasional stalling when coming to a dead stop.
Keep in mind, this car is not going to live much longer, and I am not asking for miracles. But, I am assuming people who populate this forum have greater experience with this car so I have some questions.
1. I ran Seafoam at the suggestion of a local auto parts store and the fluctuation at a steady 60 have stopped entirely. This tells me that part of my issue is obviously crap inside the trans. To this end, the hesitant shift at 45 is still there but it has improved a bit.
2. The stalling at stop is not all the time, but I think my short term solution will be to shift to neutral so I'm not always restarting the car.
Having given these scenarios, I would like a couple opinions. I have always heard changing the ATF on a high mileage car is not a good idea. But, I am wondering if changing the filter may be worthwhile? Also, back in the day I had a Sunbird with a similar issue and unplugging the solenoid cured the problem for the remainder of the time I owned the car. I know this isn't so practical on this car. I have also heard stories told of putting a switch in other cars as a cut off. Is this viable for this car?
Once again, not looking for miracles, just looking to maybe get the car into the spring when my job situation tends to allow greater spending power.
Thank you all very much.
