Well my tranny finally blew. No drive at all. Was going down the interstate, went to take off around a semi and when it downshifted, it slammed and lost drive completely. So I'm taking it in for a rebuild. What are some parts I should upgrade? I plan to have an upgraded input shaft and upgrade my chain. Anything else I should price? What are the main things that need be upgraded? I want to mod my motor to be down to a 3.5-3.4 pulley.

Triple edge performance has a nice upgrades parts selection, you can look through it and see for yourself. Power capabilities and general reliability is up to you though, since you plan on modding. I can only speak for common problem parts since I'm not modded.

    Must:
    New hardened 4th clutch hub
Inspect/replace pump shaft (may be the cause of your failure)
Shift kit (Like transgo) Also adding the differential lube line retainer is not a bad idea
Sonnax Boost Valve and Sleeve Kit
New forward apply band (they're known to break. Could be the cause of your failure if you haven't tried putting it into manual 1-2)
Input clutch piston(known to wear on the inner surface and cause 1st gear application issues)
New PCS and TCC solenoids. Borg warner makes a good PCS.
2006 Grand Prix GT S/C 109k - Modded Transgo Shift Kit, Gutted Airbox, Dash Cam, and Inlays. Retros soon to come.
2002 Grand Prix GT N/A 127k - Same as 06 Plus: Trans Cooler, DIY Aux Input, LED lighting, Suspension Upgrades, Tint, Retrofits.
    Sold.

I just ordered a transgo shift kit! Going to have whatever the problem is fixed and have everything that worn replaced. I don't plan to "build" it. Just wanting more power. Enough to keep up or beat the gxp which honestly isn't hard.

Don't feel bad... mine went to crap last week and is at the shop getting rebuilt as I type this. I was going to order a TEP Basix HP but a shop local to me is rebuilding mine exactly like it. Before I could even begin rattling off what the TEP trans was, the shop owner just started telling me all of the 4T65E's problems and what he did to make them better/stronger. My forward apply band broke, most of the clutches were smoked, and the 4th clutch hub splines were stripped... yeah, the previous owner beat the crap out of it. Trans shop is putting in a hardened 4th hub, a Trans Go and a few other goodies to support 300-350, good enough for me at this point. It sucks dumping $1600 into a car you just bought, but that is life sometimes.

I just got mine back 2 days ago. He said he had a bag of broken parts he replaced. He said that tranny was beat and made me look bad in front of my grandparents (they paid it as I had no money). So now they think I beat the piss out of it and blew it. That tranny got replaced 2 months ago by previous owner but the tranny was junk when I bought it 3 days after. The warranty it had couldn't be used because they couldn't find a tranny. So I got screwed. But my clutches were burnt out, my apply band, and my input shaft was snapped in half. So I got the rebuild, hardened 4th clutch, shift kit, and a few other goodies as well. 12000 mile/1 year warranty. $1551 total.

That is what I am paying... $1550 plus tax and fluid... if I had more time on my hands I would have supported our site vendor TEP and bought one from him. I just started a new job and am in the midst of house projects to finish. My wife isn't very happy right now with a $1600 setback but it is what it is. I should have mine back Monday or Tuesday. I hate having to drive my GTO in this crap weather but so be it. Note to previous owner. .. thanks for beating the piss out the car, and flushing the fluid to make things look pretty.... a$$hole... ok rant over... Keep up on the maintenance of it and it should be good to go for a while.

Oh I hope my car lasts a while. I don't plan to build the motor. just exhaust work and then do Manu visual mods. Motors mods don't help with resale. Visuals do.
