that would be book rate, it tells the shop how many hours the job should take, they they charge you for the hours the book says. even tho it can be done in 1/2 the time most of the time.

not sure what the book hours are but i could see it being 6 hours or more easy. for r and r. no other work. just a swap.

then they want to charge extra for fluids too.

I understand how flat rate works. My transmission is acting like its on its last leg and I got a quote of $2887 for a reman Jasper unit installed, fluids and all. I was wondering what the flat rate time allowed was to get a better idea of how much of that price was labor and how much was the transmission.

get a tep trans, they got a good cheap one for like 1600, back to basics iirc is what they call it. no core either.

most shops want a easy 5 to 600 to do a engine or tranny swap. order your own trans, and drop the car and tranny off. get that estimate. for just the r&r. shop around to a few garages too, dont take the first est.

if they order the trans, they are making money off it, shops always mark up parts by 20 %.

Should some where in the neighborhood of 7.4 hours of labor time to replace one.

1700-1800 for the trans, 750 for labor at 100 an hour (that vaires alot between shops) the rest is tax and fee.
