    Hello!
I have a 2004 GP GTP Comp G. with approx. 140K miles. The Transmission is original, and has never been rebuilt. Over the winter, I began to encounter a strange symptom. When I accelerate the car with a load, (more weight in the car will emphasize it) I feel a chatter / vibration which I believe is coming from the transmission. It seems to happen even worse if I accelerate in a turn (either direction) like within an interstate ramp. When I straighten out, it seems to lessen a little, but seems to not like a load. If I get off of the accelerator, the vibration / chatter will stop. I do not think it is front wheel bearings, since I tend to believe there would be a vibration on a turn, whether I accelerate or not, and I do not feel it in the steering wheel. If I drive the car around town, and baby it, it is fine. No hard or rough shifting. Trans temp never goes above 200 in traffic.

This spring I took it into a shop, and thought that a fluid / filter change in the tranny might help. The tech told me the old fluid was terrible, (I knew it was getting brown) and he also said that I needed a rebuild. He told me that - based on the fact that under WOT it tends to not want to up-shift soon enough (his opinion). He also said he did not notice any vibrations, which I have a hard time believing.

    Comments & Advice Please!

    & Thanks for any help!

The problem with the vibrations while on the gas and turning sounds like a classic CV axle issue.

I would replace both of them to stop that issue.

OK - I'll look into that; Is there a way to verify that without removing them?
Reason I ask is because on other Front Wheel Drive cars Ive had - Hondas / Toyotas, etc.. they will make quite a bit of noise on a turn.
I do not hear that with this car.
    Thanks for the idea.

FiveFinger hit the nail on the head. I had the same problem a few years back in my 02 GTP. RH cv axle inner hub bearing was junk. Replace the RH cv axle(which is the main drive axle) and your problem will disappear.

    A. OP states either direction so dont recommend a right axle and we have no inner hub bearing its outer.

B.easiest ways are get underneath and look for torn boots and grease flung everywhere and sometimes CV's can go bad and still have boots intact, rare but can happen. As FFP stated go after your hub bearings make sure your wheel dosent have play. As well as the lower motor mount. If all these check out good and your still having chatter in the trans at speed youre going to need a rebuild eventually. best of luck

Along with the above ways to check it out. Go to a parking lot and turn the wheel all the way in one direction and drive in a circle, then go the other way, any clicking or noise when the axles are at their full turn?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
