'01 GT transmission shifts like crap past 3.5-4k rpm from 1st to second. got 2nd up to 5k rpm and shifted fine. only shifts bad half the time. only seems to do it when engine is up to temp. when its cold its jerky but doesn't jutter or feel like its slipping. thats what it does. posting a vid wouldn't help cause don't want to do it cause its bad. also shifting into reverse from park or any gear is really rough and you can feel car shake. is that the torque converter or what. do i need a new tranny or just get it rebuilt? thanks

1 to 2 shift solenoid ... Very typical with these transmissions. Maybe someone who has remedied this issue may pipe in.

First I've heard of a shift solenoid being common. Can you elaborate more Jim? Thanks

I looked up the code, p0781 ... I did read some more, and it's a way more common problem in the 4L60

I guess it's been my experience with GM 4T6xx, maybe not so much a common problem.
I did read that the pressure solenoid will fail or malfunction more often than the 1-2 solenoid, resulting in similar symptoms.

Blackish when wiped? id at the very least do a pan drop and put a new filter in it and new fluid. Who knows when the last time was it was changed. I still don't think there is enough info here to narrow down the issue.
