I swapped a mint 4t65e from a 07 lacross into my 2000 Park ave. I swapped the valve body, channel plate, pump, manifold pressure switch, and a 3.29 single chain gear set into the 07 trans, along with the wiring harness. They both have an internal mode switch. The issue is that my gear selector now seems to go Park-neutral-reverse-neutral-manual third. I have no overdrive. It's not a cable issue, because I took it off and switched the gears by hand, same thing. I'm outta ideas. Any one got one?

You sir have miss matched your manual valve linkage along with manual valve....there are roughly 5 different versions throughout the years. Trans has to be opened up to be fixed.....sorry.

can this be done with the trans still in the car, via the side cover? I would need the link, and manual valve, and thats it?

I'm not so sure that's the issue. Let's do some more testing.

When you say you have those gears. Do you actually have those gears as you row through the pattern or do you have that showing on the dash as you go through the pattern?

If it's your dash that shows it, search on my name and "ea sy" without the space then find the external pnp switch. Do that and you are fixed up.

If you actually get that going through the gears..then Greg is right and below is what happened to you. You paired the wrong wire with the wrong manual valve.

And..here's how long the combo needs to be.

Let me double check with scanner, but I'm pretty sure it's correct with the prndl switch (my dashboard doesn't show gear selection anymore). So to change that valve out, what kind of a job am I looking at here?

Pull the side cover, weasle the old out and new in. Sucks, but possible. For more info look at the how to for 4th clutch hub change. Except you only need the side cover off, not the valve body or channel plate.

Good, was really hoping that I didn't need to pull the vb or channel plate. Does it matter which valve is it, or just that it matches the link?

From info I gathered from Dave at TEP, the total length is the important part.

Bill is correct....spacing of all of the notches in the valve is the same, overall length is what matters. The version that has the darker colored metal clip has the higher failure rate. The one in the bottom picture of Bill's post is the most desirable one.
