How much mileage is to much mileage when buying a used trans?
Depends on the trans... how it was treated, if it was cared for and fed properly as well if the stars align.
Personally.. I like 130K or less
Share your thoughts on this with me bill.

I do agree with the 130 or less philosophy.
My thoughts you ask:
It's not from a GTP and it wasn't in a GTP recently either. That came out of a 2000+ H/G/C body car. You say..how can I know?
The trans mount on the front of the trans is from a big body car. It's aluminum
The gear selector cable bracket.. it's not bolted to the top of the case, it's bolted onto two studs.
The other thing that makes very little sense is the PNP switch on top of the trans. Most of the 00+ transmissions in the big bodies had the switch internal and wouldn't have had this box.
Sooo if he doesn't know what it's out of.. I'd be concerned about how many miles he doesn't know either.
The tag is on the diff.. have him send you a picture. Then use TEP or GMtuners to decode it.
Wow!....:and I was gonna call the man and question his knowledge on it,but since you in so many words diagnosed it to be a diff..... Trans just by seeing the pic I don't think I need to...lol.
It's an HD and perfectly just as good as a GTP one. Hell.. it likely has less fail, because it didn't come from a gtp. It'll go right into a GTP.
No prob! I asked you for your honest opinion and thoughts and you gave it to me so I can't be mad about that,I'm just trying to find a descent temporary trans just to get my car back on the road until I can re-gather all the parts I sold from my rebuild, but it seems all I can find are GT trans and the people who have them want more than I wanna pay....plus I don't want to go through the whole diff/axle swap nor the pcm tune for the gears, that's just more money I could be spending towards my initial rebuild.
If it's a temp.....
Ask the guy for the tag info. Do your homework...then hit him with the knowledge. Bring the price down another $25-$50 and smile when it works just fine.
You'll end up swapping the broken PNP switch.. but that's easy and there's a how to for it.
It'll go in with no modification needed just the pnp switch your saying sir bill?
And what about this one?

Guy said the tag on the diff was rubbed out.
And it can be.
2nd one.. the black bracket on the far side tells us it was in a W body. Can't see the diff cover at enough of a direct view to see if it's big, but it says GT... so it shouldn't be. The guy lists the various cars it'll go in and that's nice. If you tossed an HD diff it in, you'd have 3.29 gear ratio.
I know and it seems like that may be my only option as of now, although I don't wanna go through the whole swapping diff/gear tuning thing....I may just have to.
I'm just ready for my car to be driveable again.
I also appreciate the input bill.
