Gomna put a new trans soon wanted to know which could I use a transmission from another gtp or does it have to be my year which is a 1997? Can I use a 98 or does it have to be a 97?

You can use 97-02. 97 has to be from a GTP.....all other years can be from a GT if you wanted to swap to the 3.29's that is. Now is the time to throw a 300m and 7/8" or at least a V8 speck chain in there.
    1999 GTP 2dr - Whipple 537whp.....for now
    1998 GTP 4dr - ST2, Cartuning PT61, IC - SOLD
    1999 GTP 2dr - SIX, GenV, Headers, TEP Trans, E85 - SOLD
    1997 GTP 4dr - 3.4, 1.9's, 3" DP, P-log - SOLD

I really hope you plan on doing this at the same time as the engine, no point in doing an engine then a trans shortly after IMO that's a crap ton of work to do twice.........

Isn't that much work. Only takes 1.5 or 2 hours to drop a trans out, then a bit of time to freshen up and another 2 hours til you are test driving.

Scotty isn't that far from you. He saw how it's done. I bet he could duplicate that timeframe.
