Is it OK to use vaseline to hold channel gaskets on? Also I read ssomewhere about filling pump cavity with ass lube to help it prime? Is that necessary?

No need on filling the pump on either trans or engine for series 2/3 cars and yes.. you can use vasoline.

The real way to do it though.. is get some M6 x 1.00 bolts and cut the heads off or get length of rod from the store and use that to hold them in place. It's such a better way to put them together.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
