The other day I backed my 2004 GTP out of the driveway but when I put it in drive nothing happened! I brought her to the dealership where they told me that it needs a new forward band ($3000can) or I could just get a new transmission ($7000can). If this is all covered by warranty than I don't mind (still waiting to hear back from them), but if not then as broke college student, I'm screwed! I can't help but feel that I'm being taken advantage of because I'm a young woman. I don't know much about cars but I really do want to understand. I asked the mechanic to explain the issue in layman's terms but he just spoke to me as though I were an idiot. I've been trying to research pricing on the web. I would appreciate any input from anyone. Maybe even a link?
    Thanks

OUCH that is pretty ridiculous pricing!! Im not sure what you were told by as Chris mentioned above the part itself isnt that expensive but unfortunately is is literally one of the last parts that is taken out of the transmission case when taking the trans apart which means a complete rebuild or replacement just as you were given the option. $7000 is the most insane BS price I have ever heard and either they said it so you wouldnt possibly take it or as you mention being of the female gender sometimes makes salesman think they can take advantage of the situation. If it is under warranty then it better get taken care of and I would raise #$(*@%%%^%# if it is not covered!

Thanks so much guys! I've heard back from my warranty people and it's covered. I'm thinking that since the warranty is paying, then maybe that's why the dealership is making up these crazy prices. The problem now is that the people from the warrenty are asking the dealership for pricing of a used tranny. Do I want a used one, wouldn't that cause other problems in the future? I know how many km's I have on this one, but how would I know about the old one. Would it really be much better?

I would do my best to make them put in a new tranny or completelly rebuild yours at least. A used one will probably have simmilair milage and could potentially end up with the same problem down the road.
