4t60e hd diff swap

So my tranny recently blew in my 97 GT, It has the 4T60E vacuum actuated tranny. I am going to be getting another 4t60e and was wondering how hard if possible to swap the hd diff into it. Zzp sells a HD swap kit and their kit options are if you get the 4t60e package you need the ring gear and Torrington bearing also.
Has this ever been done? Thanks alot. Need info asap.

Just do a 4t65 swap. Its not hard and youd b better off

I DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO SWAP THE ENGINE HARNESS, PCM, OR GET A TUNE FOR IT.
All I want to do is swap the diff so it will never happen again.

Hd conversion wont help longevity of the trans. And you wouldnt need a tune, just a pcm from a 98-99 gp gt, 98-99 monte z34/lumina ltz. Ur gonna have to change one axle to make hd fit correctly. Is there not a upullit nearby?

Like I said. I am not swapping the tranny. It will need the tune because of different gear ratio. This was asked just as can I get the hd diff in a 4t60. Not about a swap

Youd need a tune for a tranny that would have geara matched to the pcm youd need for ir to correct ratios? Whatever dude. If ur gonna act like an ass to anyone tryin to give friendly advice good luck getting info. Likely youre pissy cause others told you the same thing. Therws a reason they only made 4t60s a few yrs

For the record, i blew the hell outta 4t60 with a 3400. And the t60 was almost new

Im not acting like an ass. Im saying, I clearly stated I dont want to swap trannys. If the thread was asking how to swap than yes ide be fine, but im trying to get advice and I hate when people just try to get me to do something else than what I was saying

In ur description you stated that you r getting another tranny, classifies as tranny swap. Stock rwplacement or conversion. You also stated that u are on a budget. Hd conversion=total waste of @#$%in $. Hd or not the clutches will burn just as fast. In a drag car dif will survive ONE more pass.

Its a car that makes 200 hp. Its daily driven. Not drag racing. Yes I get on it every once in awhile but nothing special

I honestly dont want to do the swap. My dad is going to pay for the tranny since easter is coming up and he doesnt trust me doing the swap. So im gonna be doing the stocker with a hd diff

^exactly. Hd diff wont help. Im on a tightass budget myself. My 3400 put out 190hp in a lighter car.

Tim, like l67ss is saying don't waste your time putting the HD diff on the 4t60, save up and do a proper 4t65 swap.

Tim the car doesn't make anywhere close to 200hp but I'd just throw a stock diff back into it and just drive it. Save up for a trans replacement eventually though.

If the only thing that blew is the diff. Then why not grab just the diff from a 4T60 and flip that in. Doing that job isn't horrible. You pull the axle, one small bracket and the diff cover comes off. A reasonable sized screw driver and a hammer, the diff is out. Fairly easy and painless overall if you are semi comfortable working on a car.

Personally I wouldn't spend the money to upgrade the diff and program the pcm. This being a daily driver.. two things that you need to know are don't get in the power hard on turns where the wheels might break free and don't spin them up from a stop. Those are the basic diff killers. To swap that pinion gear, I'm not 100% certain on the 4T60, but the newer version the 4T65 you have to disassemble the whole trans to swap that ring/pinion gear. That is a lot of extra money on labor.

Another thing to consider is when the diff blows, the material goes into the pan, it doesn't go through the trans. So a quick diff swap (if the pinion is good) and then you change the filter/fluid. You're back on the road. No trans swap, no extra labor for doing the parts required for an HD diff etc.

One other thing..

4T60's had a lot of things going on for changes in the diff/pinion area. If you buy a diff, make 100% sure it came from the correct model year and is compatible to your trans. This is why ZZP says you need the pinion, because they aren't guessing at which fit where.

When my diff blew it blew a hole in the side of the transmission case. So it needs a nee transmission.
