This is kind of a long story but I want to give a little background to the problem so bear with me please.
Saturday I drove home two hours to visit my parents. About half way home, driving on the highway (70mph) there is a clunk noise like something rolled under the bottom of my car. I just figured it was ice so I didn't worry about it too much. I getto my parents and drive around town some and noticed that it sounded like my driver side axle was clunking. I had replaced both of them in September if 2012 and just replaced the passenger aside one again a week earlier. They were zzp stage one axles. yeah yeah zzp junk I don't wanna hear it lol I know what they are but for the price and one year warranty I gave it a shot because I haven't had much luck with aftermarket axles on other cars, junk boots right out of the box and what-not.
So at this point I'm thinking I have a bad axle again. I drive out around town some more and then make the two hour trip home with no issues, just the clunking sound while turning. I drive it to class and work the next day. No issues until I'm driving home. I am pulling away from the of ramp turning into town. I get up to speed (35) and let if the gas. There is a loud pop or bang and it sounds like something rolling under my car again. I slow down to make my turn and notice my speedometer doesn't change. I turn the corner and give it gas but it doesn't go anywhere. I pull off to the side of the road. I'm stopped but the speedometer is still reading 40. I put it in neutral and shut the car off. I start it back up and the speedometer immediately goes to 10. I try to put it in any hear in gear but I have No forward or reverse, just a light grinding noise. I try to put it in park. It was a loud grinding noise like trying to shift a manual car with no clutch. I shut it off and put it in park.
At this point I am just pissed off because my car won't move and its snowing again. Luckily I'm only a quarter of a mile from my house so I walk there. I call my buddy up and have him come pull me the rest of the way home. I have him get in the car and put it in drive while I look under the hood. I can see the drivers axle spinning but the passenger side is not and the car its not moving.
This happened last night and i haven't had time to dig into it. I'm really hoping its just the axle. The diff wouldn't be so bad since I have a spare but its cold and that's a lot of work to do in the cold. I'm really hoping that its nothing internal because that will just get pricy. I just did fluid and filter in the tranny maybe 4,000 miles ago too install a shift kit and fluid was clean and everything looked good. I don't beat on it, no burnouts or racing, I just wanted to improve the shift feel.
The only good thing that came our of last night is that Netflix just release the final episodes of breaking bad and I started watching it after this ordeal.
Now after that long winded story, anybody have any thoughts?
