those are hard to find used. its something to do with the valve body that makes them different.
id say save the time and hassle and just find a good used one at a decent price
It looks bad but thats the inside of the filter too.You did the right thing by changing it it could last another 100k or who knows.Last one i had issues with i took it out and had a local shop rebuild it for 500.00.Yours is either FR2 2.93 or FR9 3.29 its 04 only as far as i know.Mine was the more expensive gear ratio thats one more reason i went the rebuild route.
I have a good idea what that metal is from. I Had the same thing happen to my transmission, I even have pictures of it but cant remember where they are. The transmission will work fine and you probably will not hear any noises for the most part, but listen for noise when lifting off the accelerator, listen for a very faint hum or ggrrr noise. The culprit is the roller thrust washer for the sun gear in the differential, and the noise when lifting off the throttle is caused by the sun gear grinding against the differential housing after the thrust washer has decides to make a hasty exit. Then pieces of metal get between the planet gears and the ring gear and do more damage. Then the metal pieces escape through the drain hole and into the sump of the pan. If you catch it early enough the differential may be salvageable, if not than a new differential will be needed because the surface for the thrust washer will be worn away and the clearances will not be correct if re-used. I had to replace my differential, thrust washer and sun gear, but the damage to the ring gear was only minimal and was re-used.
I am not saying this IS your issue, but it is the most likely.
It really makes since Quick Silver!! I saw those little needle bearings I can see exactly what you are saying. Do you think I should go ahead pull it and go through it? I really don't want it to do any more dmg than what is done and in the process of doing. and who knows for sure how bad it is:( I will really pay very close attention when letting off the accel. also if I catch it early and it hasn't done significant dmg. would this be a pretty easy fix? I know the answer prob. to this ? but ill ask anyways because you have been through it, Do I have to pull Trans. to replace the parts or can it be done while in the car? Thanks so much for the info this might just have saved me more cash than it could lead into......
DO this: Get your car going about 50 mph on a smooth quiet road, turn off the radio, roll the windows up, and turn the blower fan on low so it is as quite in the cabin as possible, and while holding speed at around 50 mph lift off the accelerator quickly and completely to coast and listen for the noise. With that roller bearing gone, there will be noise SOMEWHERE. Is your hearing good? There are several roller thrust bearings in the differential, and several things can make them go bad: 1) doing burnouts, 2) using and impact wrench on the main axle nut.
I have been watching this and listening very close I have not heard any noise only when in manual shift and I let off the fuel I do hear a little whining sound. I have also replaced passenger Axle and added a Trans cooler. The cooler has helped divert the heat a lot it stays around 150 now was going up in the 200s if I was doing a lot of stop and going. It seems to shift better now than it did I don't know might just be me. This was the first time I added a trans cooler I am now a firm Believer in TRANS COOLERS I left my stock one on then put the ext. cooler on the return line right before it goes back into the trans. I really hope this helps it last longer. I might do another pan drop soon see how the filter and magnet looks.
I think You Hit the old nail on the head with this one Quick Silver!!!! I was changing my brakes today and when I spun the front passenger tire there was a catchy kinda grinding noise coming from the Diff cover... I am going to pull it tomorrow and see what the damage is. Is that a pretty bad job pulling the diff while in the car. I left my car on the stands for tonight going to pull the diff cover first thing in the morning.
That picture of the needle bearing in your hand. It is time to pull the diff cover and replace the diff. Holler if you need one, found a couple on the shelf the other day. Will give you a great price to get this off the shelf, I'm moving soon.
OK FOR SURE!!!! I am getting ready to go out start pulling my axle, I will pull the diff cover if it is chewed up Ill buy the one you have on the shelf for sure!! I will never find that part here where I am at. I will let you know soon as I get it pulled whats up with it and if I need one. My car is the COMP G I have herd they are different is the one you have for a comp g or does it matter..
Comp G is the same as the one I have. It should have 3.29 gearing which means it has a 3.29 HD diff with 1:1 chain gearing.
Bill, I have a ? I have been tring to get my diff cover off, that darn Bracket that bolts to the engine and diff cover is right in my way. I have all the bolts out I can pull the cover about 3/4 inch off the trans then the darn brace cod locks it. I tried turning it pulling it wiggling it I am getting ready to get out the die grinder and modify that brace. LOL Do you have any suggestions?? Thought you might know a trick to this. I can almost get enough clearance but just not enough to get it off.
This is easy.. remove the bracket. Two 13's into the block and you'll be clear to remove
Ahhh I found out where the metal came from now!!!! The thrush bearing that is inside the diff that the sun gear sets against went out and the bearings chewed up my sun and planetary gears, It didn't hurt my Ring gear Thank Gosh. I need that Diff. Bill what would you have for it??? How do we buy here? I have paypal.
Yes it is the HD 3.29. I saw in one of TrannyMans Posts if it has the needle Bearing in the Diff. Cover more than likely 3.29 HD. Mine Has these Bearing in the cover instead of the bushing.
Thought I would post a couple pics up of the DMG...http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8a9135a0.jpg
