I've had my 2000 GTP since new. Bought it with 6 miles and it now has 144k on the clock. Never had any major issues with it until yesterday. Drove it to work in morning, got her up to almost 90 on the freeway just tooling along down the road. Everything was just fine. I came out to go home, started it up, put it in reverse.. NOTHING!! No grinding noise, no thump, nothing. The car won't even attempt to move.

Checked the fluid and it's full. No leaks. Check the linkage and the cable is moving the shift lever on the tranny. Shift inicator is working, back up lights come on, but the car won't move. Hooked up a rope and towed it home with my truck, so it goes into neutral just fine. Tried putting it in gear going down the road and still nothing.

There was absolutely no indication at all that anything was wrong on my drive in yesterday morning. Car ran great, pulled hard and shifted strong as usual. I'm thinking it's got to be an electrical fluid control component of some sort. Unplugged the two wire connectors and plugged them back in but that didn't do anything either.

Any ideas?? I don't think it needs rebuilt cause it has always worked so well. Something quit. Is there a fuse or relay for the transmission contol?

Nope, went through all the gears, nothing. I could have limped it home in 2. I read about a problem with the forward band, but reverse will still work if that's the problem. I have no reverse either.

Put it in 1 and give it gas and see if it goes.

It won't move at all in any gear. The guy at the transmission shop said it's the pump.. $1,100 to fix it. Found another shop that can install a rebuilt tranny for $875. Gonna go that route I guess.

Sounds like the pump shaft stripped or broke. Its about a $40 fix, and if you have any tech skills at all you can do it yourself.
All you have to do is pull the valvebody.

^ I was just about to mention that, and to check the pressure first but I wanted to be sure it wasn't the input clutch piston seal blown out or something

I put an LS1 into a 70's jet boat. I can handle that.. Will that thing go out all at once with no warning? It ran great on the way in Monday morning. Gonna search YouTube for a how-to. Thanks.

You can test pressure first, I wouldn't tear into the trans to replace the pump shaft just on the fact there's no movement. And did you try putting it in the 1 selection and giving it some gas to see if it engages??

Yes it will go all at once with no warning. Normally like a fuel pump. It works until you turn the key off, then it never works again.
I'm with Navy, atleast check to see if there's pressure at the test port first.

When it was in the parking spot it wouldn't move in any gear, but I didn't gun it real hard cause there was a car parked in front of me. It's in a spot I can check the 1st gear thing now. I'll check that tomorrow along with test the line pressure at the test port. Where is the test port and what kind of gauge do I put on it? IF that's the problem, then entire valve body has to be dissasembled and cleaned? Where do I get a new shaft from? Maybe a good time to put a shift kit in it.. ;-)

EDIT: Is the HD pump shaft different from a non HD pump shaft?

Same shaft just hardened. Order the HD. I'll see if I can get a picture of the test port location for you. You don't have to clean the valvebody. If it was shifting good I wouldn't recommend it because if done incorrectly you could actually cause yourself a problem.
Just pull the valvebody and pull the shaft. Search 02navyblues started threads, he recently did the trans in his car and there is a lot of good info in there that will help you in your quest.

It was for a 4th clutch hub/pcs/tcc but you have to go to the same spot for the pump shaft IF that's the issue. This is the post if it comes to it: http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...in-the-Vehicle

Been a while since I got to this one. Just parked the car and did lots of hot boating over the summmer. Now it's time to get the car running right once again. First had to put a charger on it for a couple of days so it would start. Found the pressure test port and it's got ZERO pressure, so pump shaft it is.

All my searching is finding AC Delco part number 24209284 for the transmission oil pump drive shaft. Is this the right one?? I haven't found anything different for supercharged on non supercharged.

I'll have lots more issues to move on to once this is squared away.

That's the one I found that listed a part number on Amazon. Thanks.

Does the throttle body have to come off or just the tranny pump??

Odd question.. You drop the left side of the subframe down man. All suspension stuff in order to get to the pump. Hardly anything to do under the hood.

Wups, meant VALVE body, not throttle body. Do I gotta remove the valve body of the transmission once I'm inside. I've seen a few vids where they take the valve body off, then the pump shaft, but it seems there's nothing actually holding the pump shaft in once the punp cover comes off.

nope VB doesn't have to be separated from channel plate, and you can take just the pump off the valve body. To get at the clutches and the rest of the internal parts you can take off the pump first then take off the vb and channel plate as one piece. Then youll have the 4th clutch package and chain exposed.
