I know this is a grand prix fourm but I also know you guys are some of the best fools out there when it comes to these trans. Got a 2000 chevy venture same trans as in both of my other cars and almost all grand prix's. It will not fully shift into 4th gear driving. It will slip between 3-4th gear like the toruqe converter is not locking up fully. I had someone tell me that it is the tourqe converter sensor bad. I have looked up where they are at and it does not seem like a horible job. (just a pan drop pull the sensor out replace sensor/filter and refill) Can anyone tell me if this is true and is it that easy of a job or is there alot more too it.

Do I have to drop the valve body to change out the sensor ? Im not the best person with transmisions but im guessing I could drop the valve body by myself without f'ing it up too bad. Just need a few picks from the forums here on putting in shift kit should show me what I need to do to drop the valve body.

First off it seems as though your 4th hub splines are gone, This will make the vehicle never engage 4th gear.

if it is infact the TCC solenoid you cannot drop the pan, you have to remove the side cover, and that typically means dropping the trans down if not the entire way out of the vehicle.

It engages 4th gear but only for about 5 seconds then drops back to 3rd for about 5 seconds then back to 4th and so on The entire time you are driving it. It shifts perfect other then that was drove by an old lady in her 70's untill I got it. Always serviced on time. Trans fluid is brite red and crystal clean.

Edit. It does not drop down into 3rd gear it just unlocks the torque converter. It does not fully drop down a gear it is only about a 100-200 rpm swing when it unlocks it.
