Has anyone ran into this problem...the tach seems to jump around 300 to 500 rpms in overdrive at 55 to 60. I does get pretty violent at times when lugging it. Any hints or clues? Any help would be appreciated.

By lugging it you mean giving it gas? It' probably the torque converter applying, then dis-engaging rapidly due to a bad torque converter solenoid. Those usually go bad around like 160k+
by lugging it I mean hardly on the throttle...so do you think its the torque converter it self or is there a sensor or solenoid on the transmission case. Is it hard to replace?
Well first how many miles? I don't think I've ever seen one go bad before 140k, and it usually happens when attempting to disengage, when giving it gas. Does it always to it? Is the check engine light on? Do you have a way to scan for codes?
Are you sure its not a combination of dod and ****ed up engine mounts you're feeling. Also what do you have done to the car
Mine is acting up since about 85k, it certainly can happen earlier. I have to go in through the side cover this week because of how irritating it's become.
Yours pulses when downshifting (unlocking under acceleration) right?
Well thats it....the tranny puked! drove it 30 miles and acted great! Got in it and drove 1 mile got to a stop sign pushed the gas and the tach went to 3000 and didnt move! Pushed it 3 blocks and parked it for the weekend! Dont want to but prob gonna trade it off! Bummer!
Did you ever check the trans fluid level and color?
