Wondering if i could get your opinions on this. I have no clue when my trans was flushed last. I am at 245k and the trans fluid does not look terrible, but looks like it could be changed. I know that a full flush would be a death sentence for it, but I asked two shops if a pan drop and a fluid filter change would be safe/beneficial. One said it would be just as bad as a flush and a thousand miles down the road I would be looking for a new trans, the other said "no problem, we actually recommend that for high mileage cars, oh and a bottle of Lucas too".

Who is right? Is there any chance that a simple fluid/filter change would kill the trans?

    thanks

I have always heard that a pan drop and fluid/filter change was ok... But no flush.

As long as the fluid doesn't smell burned, or look very dark, you should be fine.

I'd go with the pan drop/fluid change and the Lucas. Can't hurt as long as the fluid isn't toast like 02Navy stated.
